The Menopause

Contributor: Silverdrop Silverdrop
My periods are getting shorter and lighter and the gap between them seems to have gone up to 30-32 days. I'm only 42, but both my mother and grandmother had early menopause. I'm wondering if that's what this is.

Of course even if it is, I can't really think of anything to do differently. I won't stop using birth control, and I'm already using lube. I don't take calcium supplements, but I eat a lot of dairy. My sex drive is all over the place, but it's not consistently really high or really low, so I don't worry about it. If I'm not in the mood one day, I will be another.

I guess I'm just curious. Any advice from women who have been through the menopause?

My wife is in her mid 40s and is going through peri-menopause with symptoms similar to yours. The docs tell her the time between the start of 'symptoms' and actual menarche can be up to 10 years. She has been getting progesterone and estrogen treatments to manage the more aggressive and undesirable side effects.

It can be. I'm right around your age and have been in peri-menopause for a few years now. Changes in the monthly cycle were my first clues, but other things have cropped up on and off since. Right now natural progesterone cream is my best ally.
