What do you guys think about people under 18 (or 21) having sex toys? Too early? Is it legal in your area? Should it be?
Minors buying/having sex toys, what do you think? It it legal in your area?

I had my first toy at 16 so I am absolutely okay with people under 18/21 having sex toys. I'm not sure what the legal age is for buying them here, but I assume it's 18 just like for buying porn.

It is not legal here and I think it should be. We're mostly abstinenece only when it comes to sex education in my state and I think if masturbation was encouraged or at least given as a reasonable alternative, the number of teen pregnancies would be prevented.
HOWEVER...and it's a big however, I do understand the idea that giving a teen a way to masturbate is only going to placate them so well until they decide to try out the real thing. It could go either way and it really depends on the child and the parents' values.

I think it should be legal here for the reasons Ansley mentioned above. I also think that masturbation should be encouraged in sex ed classes.

I agree, I think the sale of vibrators and toys should be legal for minors. of course I feel that there should be an age limit,I don't want to go to the local shop and see 12 year olds buying toys. that would be a little awkward. Id say about 15 or 16. at 16 you are old enough to work, so you should be able to buy a vibrator.

I think it's a bit early for minors. All of the media and entertainment they consume is already saturated with sex. It seems like nothing is sacred or private anymore. There has to be a line drawn somewhere.
04/11/2011
I'd rather than do a toy than do each other to be honest.
04/11/2011
I think it should be up to the parents. As with everything else, the parents are on the hook until the kid reaches the age of adulthood, so it should be their call.

The line is drawn. Children/teenagers can watch, learn, hear, read, and see sex in many different forms of media but they aren't allowed to explore their urges in a private way. This, to me, is ridiculous.

Had I been able to lock myself in my room for an hour or so with a toy and get off without shame, I highly doubt I'd have been so curious about why I wasn't allowed to participate in 'the greatest thing in the world'. And boy was I curious...I did more in my teenage years than most 20-somethings today because they just kept telling me I wasn't allowed to.
Heh, I showed them. By getting pregnant.

I agree completely with Ansley. Here in Tennessee I'm pretty sure you have to be 18. I ordered my first the day I turned 18, because I was paranoid of getting caught. I think teenagers should be allowed to get toys, though. At age 16 it'd bring a whole new meaning to "sweet 16"
But in all seriousness, if it needs to be more controlled than that, say parents must consent or something. Ideally that would get more parents involved in letting their kids know about healthy sexuality.

I think its fine, its better then them going off haveing sex with anyone and everyone. Besides their going to masterbate ether way so why not let them in on the fun as well.

Let me get this straight. Most of you people think that kids are mature enough to take a bite of the proverbial apple and not take it any further without guidance? Now, I agree 18 is an adult so where the hell the 21 thing came from, I don't understand. But seriously, all of you think that opening up Eden to kids is a great thing? I know when I was a teen, if I had access to porn and such, it didn't make me want a toy. It made me want the real thing. I have raised two young women(now in there late 20s). As I look back, if I had let then explore their sexuality, I would have been a grandpa long before I wanted to be. I don't believe at 16, a person is mature enough to know what a good feeling can do to the rest of your life. I had my first kid in my 20s and I was ill prepared for it. I would put the decision in the parents hands. If my kids had gotten pregnant, I would have had to deal with the fallout. Everyone's experiences, maturity level, and morals are different. Opening up the flood gates means to sink or swim. Are you really willing to take the burden for those that sink?

No one said anything about opening Eden for teenagers. Buying a sex toy and engaging in a sex driven community like this are two completely different things.

Has everyone forgotten what it is like to be a horny teenager with no outlet?
Puberty knows no contruct of 'consent laws' and 'adulthood'. (By the way most states have set The Age of Consent at 16 to engage in sexual behavior with other sixteen year olds.)
They are already sinking. Teen pregnancy is higher than ever.

There's a problem with legislating morality (what is "right" for one person, might not even be realistic to others).
I also understand there's a need to keep adult material out of kids' hands.
I think Europe as a whole has the best approach when it comes to certain topics American parents and lawmakers cringe at.

The issue is that people mature at different ages. I was sexually active at 16. However, I made it a point to research (with the encyclopedia, as there was no readily available form or internet when I was a teen) and obtain birth control before I had PIV sex the first time. I didn't get pregnant until I was into my early 20s and finished with my undergrad degree, and had a life partner and a house. ONE night with no birth control did it.

I knew enough (even though my family told me nothing) to know what to do to prevent pregnancy. But, I assume not all 16 year old girls think or act the same way.
I don't know what the answer to this question is. NO, I do not want a bunch of teenagers on Eden. (As long as they've turned 18, it's fine.) But, should they have access to sex toy? I don't know. I didn't have a sex toy until I was having sex for well over a decade.
Also, parents do NOT have control over whether their kids explore their sexuality or not. Two of our kids are adults and I know well I have little ability to control their sexual behavior. I educated them about sex and birth control, talked to them, I encouraged them to go to Planned Parenthood for exams and birth control etc. But, what the decide to do and when is really up to them.

That is very true that one cannot control kids exploring. I also think it wise for parents to be active in their kids life. I do think it a bit irresponsible to make adult sex toys open to kids. Every kid matures at different rates. Making toys open to kids is more or less pushing them all into something they may not be ready for. Kids have a thing called peer pressure. It's bad enough they have it from their friends. How much pressure on kids not ready for this aspect of life would be put on them from others who are? Where would the line be drawn? Allow them to buy vibrators, but not porn movies. What about bondage toys?

It would be a good niche market. Open shops that only allow 16-17 year olds to shop. Create new designs that are teen friendly with a very limited selection.

I think it's a matter of maturity, really. I feel like if someone is mature enough to have a job, and use the money they earned to go online and buy something they are mature anough to have them.

i think it can be ok

I don't think underage sex is a good thing, but I honestly don't think it's any of the gov. or anyone's business. I believe it's not illegal here, not sure though. But, buying sex toys under 18 is and it very much should be. I don't even feel comfortable going into a sex shop around here it's so bad so I really, very highly believe that anyone under 18 should not be able to have access to those shops.

I have yet to go to a sex shop where there were not a lot of scary looking men hanging out near by. So I do not think opening the world of porn and toys is healthy to our youth. In saying this I was almost 16 when one of my mothers friends bought me my first vibrator. I will always be thankful. It allowed me to find what pleasured me without going to the boys around me. I was almost 21 the first time I had sex, and that was not my idea. So I think it helped me to wait until I was ready. I was also lucky to have an adult who was willing to talk to me openly about sex and give me information to keep me safe. She was my mother when my mother was not available. This is what I hope I will be able to give my boys. You know if I can not keep them from growing up.

I believe at 16 your mature enough to have a sex toy. When I was 16 I got my first vibrator and I was still a virgin I waited until I was 19 to have sex for the first time.It help prevent me from going out and getting pleasure from any boy. Although I don't recommend going to a sex shop, ordering online is much better.
