Age problems

Contributor: Megan Jean Megan Jean
My partner is 8 years older than I am. It isn't an issue for me, but my parents, even after knowing about it for months, are still a bit weirded out by it. I think they are uncomfortable seeing their 'little girl' with an 'old man'.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Have any guys gotten flack from people for dating an older woman?

If you are old enough to be on this site, then 8 years isn't that big of a difference.

^ Agree.

And I don't think 8 years is enough to make someone an old man, haha, not unless you were an old woman yourself.

The appropriate word to use is "mature" not "old". Your parents are uneasy about it because you're only 19, by the time you've turned twenty-something, they'll be more comfortable about the notion. Introducing your boyfriend to your parents, giving them a chance to learn more about him might ease the situation, since knowing a person's character is the most essential thing.

I agree with Rossie, more or less.

It's not always an issue with age, but more of maturity and experience. I know I spent the better part of the almost 4 year relationship with a partner almost a decade younger than me waiting for the "I want to try other things with other people" line. It eventually came up.
