I've really only purchased smooth ones. The other features of the particular toy(s) that I've purchased are what has driven those purchases. Additionally I have an aversion to "realistic" toys, simulating a dismembered body part sort of creeps me out.

Depends on what I usually use the vibrator for. For insertion, I like some texture to it, but if I'm just using it for clitoral stimulation, I like them better either smooth or very lightly textured.
