Silicone is ideal, but it's also very expensive and since it's your first toy you're not 100% sure what would work for your body. Plastic is nonporous and body safe (Unlike TPE and below on the safety scale) and they run pretty darned cheap, so they're the best bet to play around with and get a feel for what you like.

I just love silicone. There are just so many benefits to having silicone, though like ryuson said plastic is good for a first toy too.

Silicone is incredible. I don't think my wife will go back to anything else now.

Silicone's best but others are okay.

Get a vibrator made with Silicone, so you won't regret anything later.

Silicone in terms of safety, but sometimes the vibrations can be dulled out depending on how thick it is.

I'd say silicone is the best overall, but for a first toy it might be better to go with plastic, due to being inexpensive, nonporous, and able to transmit vibrations very well.

i would go with a cheaper but pure silicone toy

pure silicone.

Silicone, but plastic is cheaper and still safe.

Silicone or plastic.

Silicone. Although I love glass as well.

i prefer plastic for vibrators for sure, or plastic core with a thin silicone sleeve. otherwise, vibrations have a hard time traveling through thick silicone, but plastic transmits them really well.

I'd pick silicone and then glass!

Depends on my mood and the toy's quality and vibrations. I love a good, soft, plush silicone, but MANY silicone toys just muffle the vibrations for me. I actually enjoy TPR. Yes, I'm bad. Lol. But it's what feels nice to me without muffling the vibes I do prefer the feel and safety of silicone, but if it muffles, there's little I can do. Also, a lot of silicone insertables are made so big that I cannot use them. A lot of toys made for smaller preferences are made of crap material. Not all though, but I feel there's a smaller selection for those of us who can't use larger sizes.

I love glass when I'm in the mood. I love my rotator and my super textured Icicles dildo. I do not use wood. It's a total turn off for me and rarely use jelly.

It depends on what you mean by best. Safest? Best over all? Carries vibrations well?
Best material would be silicone, but it's pricey.
Best for vibrations would be something hard, like plastic, metal, or wood.
I think it's best with plastic. I use external vibes and I need something hard and smooth. I prefer to keep silicone a dildo thing.

I prefer silicone or plastic in vibrators. Haven't had too much luck with glass vibrators.

A million times over, silicone!
