I noticed on the dolphin clit teaser that the material safety level is a 2..? Is that based mostly on porosity and sterility or does it have dangerous chemicals in it? Anyone know? I have read that it smells funny, so it has me wondering.
What does material safety mean?

If you click on the materials listed, you can see their properties. This one looks like it's jelly and plastic. I would also suggest reading the reviews, many reviewers talk about materials and how to clean them and use them safely.

Jelly: "Jelly material can't be sterilized like silicone-so no boiling water. Since jelly toys can't be sanitized they can't be shared-unless you put a condom over them. Clean jelly toys with the warm water and toy cleaner. Don't use strong soaps on them and keep in a cool dark place."

I believe the material safety level is based on porosity/ how hospitable the material is to bacteria. I'm sure the material safety level has nothing to do with dangerous chemicals.

Actually it does have something to do chemicals because of the fact that some materials with a low safety rating cannot be verified as there is no guideline available about what the exact chemical composition is. Some products may contain phthalates which cause a mild to pretty severe rash in some users. Porosity and how thoroughly a product can be cleaned also make up the safety rating.

I stand corrected. : ) The material safety level description isn't terribly descriptive.

Does the presence of pthalates in a toy affect the material safety rating at all?

how healthy a material is for your body. 10 means it is very safe and compatible with almost all body types, whereas a one means that it is not very healthy and you should use a condom to avoid complications

a lot of jelly products, especially those with an odor can give off chemicals that are harmful to the chemical balance in the body

I think it's more or less the porosity of the material.

As Dusk says it is not anything other than the toy is made from "Jelly" and can not be sanitized like silicone. I do not see that there are any dangerous chemicals in any of the toys that are sold here on EF.

You can check any of the materials that are use in any toy by clicking on them on the product page. Please feel free to ask in the forums about any product and the materials that are used and you should be able to get answers there.

Unfortunately there are several materials which include potentially dangerous chemicals. For instance, jelly toys often contain phthalates, which are chemical softeners. Phthalates can cause allergic reaction in some individuals.
