Sybian - Detailed Review and Comparison

Contributor: IntimateCouple IntimateCouple
Hello! A friend recently asked my partner and I what the big deal was about a sybian vs a hitachi/acuvibe/rabbit /etc and why it was so expensive. We enjoy this site and noticed that there wasn't a detailed explanation like in so many good reviews here(thanks btw!) so thought we'd share our reply and experiences and return the favor. We are in no way affiliated with the company and just wanted to help and hope that maybe people on this site might eventually sell some improvements! We own one and have taken it apart and rebuilt it and have experimented with it quite a bit with a handful of friends.

What makes it so different?(technical explanation)
The vibration function works completely differently than other vibes. Almost every other vibe spins a weight so that it wobbles, just like an off-balance washing machine, mixer, or car tire. The problem we've found, especially with weaker rabbits, is that the amount of stimulation decreases significantly as hands or vaginas clench and press against them closer to orgasm. The vibration also isn't necessarily going to the same spot as different parts of the vagina clench it and stop its movement. The sybian actually uses very high quality high torque machinery motors that move the pad and insert through the exact same motion at whatever speed you want, regardless of the amount of clenching or pressing against it. The controls are extremely smooth for both rotation and vibration from 0 to waywaymorethanahitachi speed. I saw a post here where they mentioned you could slide something back and forth so didn't think it was a sybian, but they were probably referring to the wedge that you can place underneath the nubby pad to raise and curve it for greater clit contact in different positions or for different people. The wedge can move forward or backwards about 3 inches to cover a full range of anatomical differences or not be used at all.

Rotating Internal Attachments: These can rotate with firmer pressure if you slide the included plastic peg intothe center of the insert to keep them upright and stiff or softer pressure if you instead use a flexible spring or nothing at all. Again, this is much different than the rotating motion of a rabbit or vibrating motion of a gspotter like a Lelo Gigi or an attachment to a Hitachi because it's not weakening, shifting the focal point of the vibration, or stopping competely when the vagina tightly clenches around it in pleasure. The internal attachment also vibrates with the same intensity of the external pad if using the peg, slightly less with the spring, and again, slightly less with nothing, but still stronger than a hitachi with an attachment or a Lelo on full speed.
Performance:
There has been quite a variation in results, but in a good way. You can go from 0 to 100mph in 10 seconds at just medium speeds, even for those who typically need a Hitachi, for a ultra fast intense orgasm or start out slow and relaxing, enjoying the smooth rotating internal motion and gradually ramping up the vibration to a strong finish. Depending on the angle at which you sit and the attachment used, it can stimulate the *entire* pelvic region at the same time with high intensity vibrations. The clitoris is perched on tissue that extends along the vulva and then wraps around parts of the vagina inside, and every last bit of it, the gspot, and the deeper hotspot fornix regions can all get set off at the same time, which is probably the reason that most of the orgasms are those really deep, throbbing full body tingling ones. A very nice side perk is that after use, that whole region stays alive for quite some time with that all over warm tingly goosebump feeling with burning toes and nipples and strong aftershocks that can turn into hair trigger orgasms during intercourse afterwards or during in doggy. The hitachi sometimes leaves you numb for sex afterwards while the Sybian sometimes acted as the ultimate foreplay for very intense intercourse after. Instead of carefully angling thrusts with a specific rhythm for a couple minutes for a g spot orgasm, all it took after some sybian rides was a penis going in the general direction of it and orgasming on the first few strokes. Another unique feature is that you can build up for a very long time by ever so slightly decreasing the speed when close to orgasm, maintaining, then inching back up in ever increasing waves until you're about to explode and when you finally do a partner can take the controls and slowly taper it down, making the orgasm last much longer. Depending on the speed and duration of use, the orgasms can best be described as ranging from a fluttery soft moan to downright feral with guttural screams resounding from deep within the soul of that completely flushed, twitching, sweaty mess of pure sexual being that you used to think was a sweet, shy woman.
The Acuvibe and Hitachi do a good job stimulating the external parts of the clitoris, but it is an entirely different experience when EVERYTHING gets set off at the same time, as much or as little as you want, with very consistent motion, and being hands free also has large benefits. Some who were capable of multiples orgasms but had never and assumed they couldn't squirt were gushing all over.
It's mostly used seated but can also be used while lieing in bed with it leaning on you on it's side.

Why is it so darn expensive?
We took it apart and saw that the motors and speed controller circuit board are much higher quality than typically seen in the sex toy market and cost around $400 from the manufacturer(Bodine Electric Company), perhaps $300 if bought used on ebay. Also for the different inserts and the part the insert wraps around, each individual one is inexpensive but the upfront cost of hiring a machine shop to make the tools and molds used to make the inserts can be upwards of $10,000 and I doubt they have the volume to make up for that initial investment in new attachments easily. Those motors and controllers should last decades, however.

The bad?
They no longer have the smooth flat top since they lost the mold tools in a fire. The only non-internal attachment flat top they have lacks a bit of padding around the vaginal opening where the other attachment's inserts usually attach to rotate and some found this uncomfortable, though avoidable by leaning forward, while it didn't bother others.
It's loud. Really, Really Loud. Depending on the speed and surface it's placed on it can vary from a hand mixer to nearly a vacuum cleaner level of noise. This can be reduced significantly by putting some padding underneath so it's not on a hard floor or put it on a bed, but it's still going to be loud. On the plus side after a couple minutes most can't even keep their eyes open or hear a thing over their own screams, so it's not as big of a deal as we thought it'd be. Many were embarassed afterwards at how loud they were.
The materials are dated. I don't know why they don't switch to silicone since the molds should be compatible, but they haven't. The black cover works, but doesn't feel great against the skin nor does it have much padding. The plain half-cylinder shape of the main body also isn't exactly ergonomic, though most don't last long enough on it for it to bother their legs. It has about a third of an inch of that old late 80's yellow foam that easily crushes and stays thin over time between the cover and casing. We fixed this by reupholstering it ourselves with some memory foam, waterproof matresspad cutout, and nice high thread count cotton bedsheets for a much more comfortable and luxurious feel. Even if it does do it's job quite well, sex is mostly in the brain anyway so fixing that and having it look and feel luxurious before it's even on certainly helps!
No thrusting, just rotating, though you can use the clitoral wedge so that it stays in contact with your clit while bouncing up and down a little bit.
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THIS WORLD - DO NOT WATCH THE PROMO VIDEO.
For a minority, the broadness of the sitmulation area in some positions at first felt "weird", turned them off, and they didn't care for it at all. It is worth noting, however, that some of those who didn't like it treated it like sex and assumed that the first time is the worst and they just have to figure things out in the right mindset and tried it after orgasm from sex or masturbation first so they more aroused and receptive to the new feelings. We assume their motivation for sticking with it was seeing how crazy others were on it. After a couple weeks of experimenting they found they had adapted and were having very intense orgasms from it alone.

Conclusion: It's expensive and dated but simply works unbelievably well with totally different sensations than other "strong" vibrators for a unique experience that is definitely worth at least the $130 reconditioning fee if you return it after 30 days and if you can afford it worth keeping.

We hope this helps answer questions from anyone interested. It'd be really awesome if someone made silicone attachments for this, and the molds should be much less expensive to make due to recent technology breakthroughs in additive manufacturing. It'd also be awesome to see nicer covers. Since the reasons it works so well are the different motions from the $400 set of motors and control boards, we didn't really see a practical way for a site like this to carry anything like them for less than $700 unless their expected sales volume was huge. Perhaps the Sybian folks might one day update their great product, but from the looks of the included DVD and website, we wouldn't count on it anytime soon.

Wow. I so want one. For some reason, I'm imagining my future husband giving presenting this to me as a honeymoon gift. Thanks for all the information. I hope the Sybian gets updated someday, and is sold on EF.

This is really cool. I've always wanted a Sybian, but I do hope they update it soon and make it more efficient and able to be sold in a wider market. I know a lot of people who would want this, but I don't know of many who would be willing to spend $1000 for it...

No problem, I hope this comes in handy.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by what makes it different or worth 1100? Did you read the whole post? I thought that was the exact question the post answered. There are plenty of other reviews on the internet if you want more opinions, we just noticed when looking for some ourselves that nobody had a good detailed technical description, so that's why we added this.
We didn't even get it for sex! She was a light sleeper and had an injury with chronic pain that kept waking her up when she moved in her sleep, except when she'd had really, really intense orgasms during sex sessions an hr or more and passed out for the night. With our work schedules that just wasn't an option every night and the pain masking afterglow from a couple orgasms from a lelo, hitachi, or acuvibe didn't last long enough for her to get into a deep sleep and trying to have more or a stronger one with them just left her numb before she reached that point she did with sex. We were trying to make the bed as comfortable as possible and the costs add up fast! Nice sheets -200. Nice bed - $600-$10,000?!?!? Even nicer pillows were $80-100 and she really didn't want to have to resort to sleeping pills so we thought we might as well risk the return fee to see if it could help and it did. After adjusting to it over a few tries, even when in a bad mood and distracted by her injury hurting, 5-10 minutes on it and she could even slump over on our uncomfortable couch and be dead asleep for the night. We ended up getting an above-average bed and sheets and spent the rest on the Sybian. There's something about all the nerves in that area strongly going off at once that just makes the whole body start to shake and sweat and a lot more endorphins build up very quickly so by the time the orgasm hits it's like the entire days worth of tension just gets shot out of the body and leaves one totally relaxed and glowing. She sweats more from a few minutes on this than she does running a mile as fast as she can! She had me put my penis along the length of the nubby pad and I said it just feels like I'm shaking a lot for a couple minutes until she cupped the top half with her hands and all of a sudden I felt this lump in my throat swelling and started sweating and came out of the blue before I'd figured out what was going on just like she had.
It is not even used like 99% of the time for sex! We already had a wonderful sex life with orgasms galore and prefer the intimacy of getting to that place together. When we do we usually end up ditching it to attack each other anyway. Every once in a while he does enjoy taking a break from doing things himself and getting to see me cum hard when I'm not being naughty and making him cross-eyed at the same time . Orgasms are a badass pain masker and sleep aid without all bad side effects and we have tons of friends who spend way more than this thing costs each year on coffee and energy drinks when they should just find a way to fuck their brains out and get a good nights sleep!

Adding or not using the wedge that goes between the pad and base and whether or you lean forward or back greatly changes the intensity and amount of clit and gspot stimulation. Some like to use the straight medium attachment and switch between leaning forward and back to alternate between clit and gspot orgasms.

If you want the absolute max stimulation possible, then you'll want to stand over and squat down on it with your knees together and towards your chest and curl your upper body down towards your knees like you were doing an ab crunch. While in this position lean back slightly if possible(it helps to have a partner hold you). This is the vertical equivalent of the woman on her back with her knees to her chest and a pillow underneath her hips for g-spot intercourse. Sitting straight up or leaning back slightly to further increase the g-spot pressure raises your clit off the nubs in front, but simply adding that wedge underneath the insert pad and base curves the nubs upwards to maintain contact. This compresses the pelvic region and greatly increases the intensity of the vibrations felt internally. Those women mentioned earlier who enjoyed g-spot orgasms but hadn't squirted previously were gushing for the first time and most times since in this position.
Hands-free is great! There are so many better things to do with them in the moment than hold a vibeor dildo in just the right place. Think of it like kissing vs kissing while being held tightly with hands running through your hair or someone focusing on just your clit vs licking and sucking all around your lips and clit while caressing your inner thighs and erect nipples. Put those hands to use!
The first time using it, she had the controls while I was behind her massaging and kissing. From the start she was twitching and getting flushed, but she said it didn't feel 'good', so kept turning it up. Eventually she hit the max speed and was shaking and moaning uncontrollably and I moved around to see what she looked like as her whole body clenched and screamed and she collapsed twitching just wanting to be held saying, "I don't like it". All the physical signs that she was having a great time were there but it all hit so overwhelmingly fast in so many different places that her brain was confused yet couldn't stop it and her panic reflex kicked in somewhere when I stopped holding her as she'd lost control of her body. She has before after multiple orgasms but that was always when wrapped around each other closely where she felt safe totally losing control and passing out. We figured that it had potential since she reacted so much physically and for the next couple weeks only used it increasing speed very slowly and taking her time and sure enough she just had to get used to so many things going on at once and never ran into that problem again and it felt pleasurable from the start.
Reading a few other experiences online and from people who just tried someone else's once, sometimes in the presence of an audience and/or with someone else running the controls, we can certainly see others making that same mistake not taking their time or just not having enough time and rushing straight to orgasm before they've adjusted and not liking it at all. That's also a statement of how darn powerful the thing is. If the Hitachi is a drag racer the Sybian dialed up quickly is a cannon where out of the blue without warning your hearts racing while you twitch and spasm and sweat profusely and before you get the chance to take a breath to figure out what's going on you've already came hard and never had the chance to enjoy any of it. Where's the fun in that? Be patient and follow the same rules you should for sex and never pressure anyone or push them any quicker than they're comfortable with!

While initial reactions varied quite a bit overall, they were about the same for people if you took into account their sexual backgrounds. Women who could have multiple orgasms from sex alone and didn't care for toys in general thought it certainly got the job done and was quite a crazy trip but just weren't interested in owning one because they're not satisfied without the personal contact of sex with a partner and won't settle for anything else. Those who liked toys a lot and were adrenaline junkies or who had trouble orgasming thought it was unfuckingbelievable and fell in love. Those who had complexes with anything going near their anus and were skeptical felt really awkward(again, it can vibrate and stimulate the whole pelvic region with how deep the vibrations go, including the anus) at first and didn't stay on long or like it(we don't understand why someone would even bother trying something if they're scoffing and assuming something is bad before they've had any experience with it and don't put effort into it other than to say told you so).
