Jelly is porous and can harbor bacteria, hold smells, or cause weird reactions with your body and other toys.

You will almost unanimously hear that silicone is the way to go

Jelly contains chemicals (in particular, phthalates) which are unfriendly for the body and in many users can cause burning sensations and infections, or potentially even cancer. It's a porous material, meaning bacteria can hide inside of it and not be washed off. It also doesn't have a very long lifespan - it's generally best to throw away a jelly toy after six months to a year, as the material starts to break down pretty quickly.

Silicone (which is what I prefer) is body-safe, nonporous, and can actually be boiled to sanitize it. In addition, a silicone dildo, if kept clean and safe from physical damage, can outlast its owner (vibrators usually not, as even the best motors break sooner or later, but the silicone material will likely still be good even then).

oh goodness jelly. I was kind of startled with what I found when researching jelly. If you ever look at the back of a sex toy and see something like (for novelty use only) odds are one, your looking at a jelly toy and two there is some nasty stuff in it.

Most, if not all, jelly toys contain things called Phthalates. These are used to soften the base rubber or pvc that the toy was made of but the problem with that is these phthalates have been tied to problems with sexual reproduction, birth defects, etc. For that reason they have been taken out of and banned from many children toys. Think of kids getting sick from the rubber on erasers, that kind of thing. Sex toy companys can use these, and many still do because they are cheaper to manufacture, as long as they mark them as "For novelty use".

Add that to the fact they are porous and can't be truly sterilized and it can make for a nasty time.

All of this can be avoided if you don't mind using condoms or toy covers but sometimes you have to consider if that is worth the hassle of even if you want to spend your money that way. Some people don't mind, throw a cover on it and have their fun. Other people are so turned off once they realize whats in the jelly that they wouldn't want it near them in anyway shape or form.

I hope this is atleast somewhat helpful and I apologize for any grammatical and typing errors

Jelly contains phthalates, which can cause chemical burns and other nasty effects. Plus they're porous so they can never be cleaned properly.

Actually, that "for novelty use only" sign doesn't always mean that a toy is jelly or even low-quality.

It's often used as a get-around so that toys can be sold in areas where they're illegal, even if the toy is in fact perfectly safe to use. Even boxes for Tantus toys have that written on them in small print!

i dont' even think jelly toys should be sold. better to invest in a long term toy that's gonna last and doesn't have the safety issues jelly does. you can read all about different sex toy materials here

vixskin is a type of silicone that it a great option because it soft on the outside
