Numbed myself with a bullet and took a break using my hand and other toys made of other materials. Now I switch it up on a regular basis and have no problems. Never once thought that I was "addicted" though.
Sex Fact: Vibrator Addiction
09/12/2011
I never thought ever that I was addicted. as I use mine once or twice a week at most.
09/13/2011
I am addicted to vibrator
09/14/2011
I think I have an addiction for buying them, but I rotate regularly and love to try new stimulation... never had either problem
09/14/2011
This is a very prevalent myth, I'm always glad to see it debunked.

I've never numbed myself or thought you could become addicted.

Can you get addicted to your vibrator? According to Tristan Taormino, no, you can't! While your body can get used to the same type of stimulation after awhile which can make it difficult to orgasm with other stimulation, it isn't an addiction. Your vibrator also won't numb or damage the clitoris either.
If you're worried, she recommends switching up the type of stimulation on a regular basis. You could use a vibrator this time, your hand the next, and switch up the types of vibrators too. She does mention that, if you use a vibrator for a very long time, you could numb yourself for a short period of time, but it's just temporary, and if you give your favorite toy a break for awhile, the feeling will come back.

I've caused myself to go numb a time or two before and occassionally have trouble orgasming, but I solved the numbess by ending my play. The trouble orgasming is due to health problems so even adding my hitachi didn't help me finish. I'm not worried about 'getting addicted' because if I feel there's a problem I just put the toys down for awhile.

There may be times when I've gone to my favorite vibe much more than usual, but I've never seen myself as addicted to it. I don't absolutely need it to get off.

Vibes feel great, but not great enough to be addicted!
01/02/2012
I'd heard that myth about becoming numb from vibrators, but I've only ever felt short term numbness.
01/02/2012
Haven't experienced this.
01/03/2012
i think anything can be emotionally addictive

this is a big one dr ruth tries to go with. "a man will never please you if you don't stop using vibrators!"
01/05/2012
This is good to know, as I found myself worrying that I was going to become addicted to Uma and Mimi the other night. I think I will just switch up my play sessions from now on.

Being addicted to a vibrator sounds like some kind of silly propaganda to me. I've never thought I was addicted, no.
01/05/2012
Definitely not addicted, and no numbing ever.
01/05/2012
I've numbed myself for a small while, but that's just because of the vibrations at the time. Sensation came back after a bit.
I've also never been addicted, really.

I never became numb but I did become so incredibly sensitive that I had to go an entire week without it. Saddest. Week. Ever.
01/06/2012
I've never become numb, but then again I like to switch up my toys.
01/06/2012
Thank you so much for the info. I think I needed to know that, but I just didn't know I needed to know it. Hmm...I need to switch things up more for sure.

...How often do you normally get off? o_o I can't imagine having more than a couple of masturbation sessions a day, it just takes too much time. On the topic, I do think that if masturbation is consuming someone's ability to function in reality because the only thing they can think of is getting off, well, then that classes as an addiction. Normal usage, which I'd even consider getting off a few times a day, a few times a week, a few times a month... whatever your normal is, as long as you're able to go through your workday or whatever your normal day is without generally having to rush to the washroom for a quickie. That's not addicted. But if you're excusing yourself from class, sneaking off during work... well, that might very well class someone as an addict, because it's interfering with their functionality. Nothing to do with frequency, but rather, WHEN and WHERE and how much it consumes your thoughts. So I disagree that people can't get addicted, I think they can but that the average user is only going to think they are due to implanted fear of self. Think about it like having one drink. Or four drinks. Or a dozen drinks. Or getting absolutely plastered. That doesn't make someone an alcoholic, not until it starts consuming their life.

I never thought I was addicted, but I have numbed myself in the past. I had to swear off using my bullet for about six months and now I only use it one or twice a day instead of every single time I want to get off.
I'd make myself numb if I used one toy every day in a row for a few weeks, or at least, bored. XD But I switch up modes of stimulation a lot and genuinely only use toys when I feel like it. So I can still even get off with my Lelo Mia... my very first, but very weak toy. ^_^
