How old do you think teenagers need to be before they use a vibrator or sex toy? To be honest, I only thought about having sex toys after I was eighteen and moved out of my parent's home, but my 15 year old sister wants one. Do other people think that she might be a little young? She is sexually active, and I think that plays a big role in this because I wasn't sexually active until I was almost eighteen.

I don't see why there should be a hard limit. They should get sex toys if and when they want to. Adolescents are sexual beings, even though our society often doesn't feel comfortable admitting that.

I know that my mother would never approve, but I don't necessarily have a problem with it. It's just weird I guess because she's my baby sister, and she's growing up lol... Thanks for your input.

I had my first one at 16. I think you're right; its a big connection to when you start being sexually active.

I don't think there is any real correlation here. Since there's no way to measure one's predilection to having sex earlier than a peer of the same age group, it's really difficult to say if one has anything to do with the other.
Sexual beings are sexual beings, it doesn't matter if they were introduced to the concept at six, sixteen, or sixty-six. If it's something they are interested in, they will find a way to earn the knowledge.
I ultimately think it's really just that simple. If a twelve year old girl is curious about sex and desires to find out everything she can on the subject, she will; regardless of the walls others try to put up for her. If a twelve year old girl isn't interested in finding out what sex is about, then she will wait until she is interested.
I think hypersexual activity seen in teenagers is something that would be there regardless if they were exposed to the world or kept in a plastic bubble with no outside information of the world whatsoever. Knowledge is just the gateway to sating their desires.

Make sure she has a good hiding place, gets something safe and knows how to use it safely, etc. Better to get her something than to have her use something makeshift and get hurt.

This is one of those things where I would take into account the maturity level of the teenager.
You said she is already sexually active, so I really don't see an issue with getting her a sex toy. You may even want to throw in a pack of condoms just to make sure she is being safe both with her toys and with her partners!

Defer to the parents - you can't get into the business of deciding which rules a parent enforces are good or bad. There is plenty of time for her as adult to explore toys. Don't her fingers work?

I feel like sex toys are a better alternative to sex at such a young age until someone it ready. At least with a toy they can learn more about themselves/their body and know what they like and when they are ready.

If she doesn't have a real toy, she'll use other toys. lol I found weird alternatives and something normal probably would have been better. There's nothing wrong with her having one. It's not like they're something she doesn't know all about already and you're destroying her innocence. XD

Honestly if she is old enough to have sex what's the harm of a non STI or STD carrying non impregnating sex toy. : )

Im 20 and didn't want one till I got into college. But for people younger than me, I don't view it as a big deal. If they can afford it, then let them have it. (As long as they use them correctly.)

She can either have play time alone with a toy or have real sex with a guy and the possibility of getting pregnant. Which sounds better to you?

It definitely plays a huge role in your life on when you decide to start becoming sexually active. I mean, yeah, she started having sex young, but I wouldn't provide her a vibrator till she was maybe 17 or so.

I got my first toy at 15 or 16. It was a conair massager from walgreens. If I had a daughter and she was 15/16 and came to me about this.. which is rather likely because of the way television is going.. my hard rule is nothing that could be inserted until she's older.
Otherwise I think it'd be safe to get an over the counter massager or a small wand. Nothing big and intimidating.

Wow, seems young to me, but I didn't get my first toy until I was 21. If she wants one, then she should have one. No big deal.

I totally agree, maturity of the teenager is the answer to this question. Age is a number, wisdom and muturity come at their own pace.

I got my first toy when I was 14/15. Before then I would use my fingers, and I hit puberty really early (got my period a few days after my 10th birthday). My mom would have rather me explore my own body sexually through toys than go out and get pregnant, and I have yet to go and sleep anyone even after all these years.

Thanks for all the input. I have actually gotten her a wand. She has mentioned using it a couple of times and has not been worried about when she will be sleeping with the next guy. I know that sounds weird and odd for a fifteen year old girl, but she makes her own decisions. I am just trying to help her in any way that I can, but she's at that age I guess...

I think late teens is fine.

If the kid is mature and old enough to not only know what a vibrator is, but ask their family for one, then why not get them one?
01/29/2013
I honestly don't know what to say... I guess if she's safe and mature enough, it's okay... Unless the parents are strictly against such things.
