I think that the plug in is best.. You don't have to worry about less power.. I have had that happen, and was CRANKY !

I may run out of batteries but outlets, not so much. Then again, popping in a battery doesn't take a few hours, but charging does. I do prefer rechargeable toys overall.

I prefer mains powered ones - it annoys me when toys lose power as charge decreases.
