How do you deal with toy disappointments?

Contributor: Nazaress Nazaress
(I've put this in the Vibrators section but it can be a non-vibrator toy, as well.)

What I mean to say is, what do you do when you get a toy you thought you'd like but it just didn't work for you? Do you keep it and just bare with it? Do you bury it in your toy chest? Do you throw it away? Do you give it to a friend or sell it? What do you do with your disappointing toys (and lingerie or other products)?

I have a broken toy I can't bring myself to throw away, even though it was awful to begin with. I'll likely eventually throw it away but for now, it's on the bottom of one of my boxes. I also don't use my Twisted Hearts Seduction anymore because it SUUUUCKS. But it's made of TPR so I don't really know if anyone would want it (because although I think it sucks, my friend absolutely loves hers). It stays in the box with the broken one. I JUST got my boyfriend the Cheeky Boy and with his first use, it didn't seem to "hit" anything so we might not be keeping that one. Luckily, it's silicone so I can sanitize if I want but I'm hoping we'll figure out a trick to get it working better because I was excited to get him that one.

I try to sell/give away for shipping a lot of them, but often they just end up living in my closet.

We're pretty much experts by now and really know what will work and what will not. Since we only buy high-end toys now - the reviews are a big deal.

Even still there is the occasional misfire - it doesn't bother us much, we just move on. I have done some successful toy swaps - which is another reason to buy better toys - they are easier to swap.

I one of my chests split down the middle. One half is for toys that I just hate and will never use. So they sit there. One day I may decide to throw some away, but I can't bear to lose some of my collection. Sometimes I grab one for a comparison to another toy or such in a review. They come in handy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

For now I just hang on to them until I can figure out what to do with them.

For the ones that have broken I toss them. For the ones that I have that I just don't like, they're in a shoe box on the top shelf of my closet, because I may need them for a comparison review at some point.

They sit and wait in the bottom of my toy chest.

I had 3, one that broke after 3 uses so I trashed it even though it was a pretty expensive Fun Factory and the other two are both at the bottom of my bag. That's how I learned that our milleage may vary... good reviews doesn't mean it work for me.

I haven't had too many disappointments yet. The only thing I totally hated was a small bullet bought years ago. I tossed it and then stayed away from cheapies. Everything else has been good.

I take that back. I have an eroscillator that doesn't do too much for me. I can't bring myself to get rid of it. It was so pricey. It's buried in a drawer somewhere. I get it out periodically because, well I must get my moneys worth.

I've been pretty lucky with toys. Even the first harness I bought when I knew practically nothing has held up suprisingly well.

The Twisted Hearts was a definite disappointment, but I got it free so that wasn't as big a deal. If I parted with cash over something and then it turned out to be junk I'd be sad, but what can you really do? Most toys aren't returnable and the market is largely unregulated. Gotta chalk it up to experience and move on. If it breaks I'll toss/recycle it. If it's just not my taste I might hold on to it to give to an open minded friend or lover. In the case of vibrators, sometimes I get curious and take them apart.

All the more reason to get recommendations and do lots of research before you buy, especially on the toys with hefty price tags.

I have the Twisted Hearts Seduction, as well. I also got it free. It's complete crap but my friend absolutely loves her.

The closet of misfit toys? You'll never watch Rudolph the same way again...

I have a few butt plugs and kegel exercisers that were disappointments and they're pushed to the back of my closet. I am much more careful and knowledgeable about toys now, so that shouldn't happen anymore.

I give away toys that can be sanitized. If I hated a toy because I thought it was a crappy toy, not just my preference, I chuck it.

The things I didn't/don't like were part of the process of figuring out what works for me, and what doesn't. I also figured out some reviewers who have similar preferences and that led me to find some toys I really love. At first I was really dissapointed when something didn't work. Now it doesn't bother me as much. Although I do wish I had waited to order that FOU! So far I am keeping all my dissapointments because I might like them later on, who knows.

For the lingerie since I only wore the item(s) one time I may simply wash then and put them in the classifieds. For the toys, I haven't decided yet.

If it can be sterilized: give away/sell. If not - recycle. I don't have enough space to keep things that I won't use/don't work.

I have a suitcase full of my toys and the broken ones and the ones I just don't like are sitting in the back of it.

If it is junk, we toss it. However, we learned to hold on to quality toys and give them multiple chances to prove their worth. When we first got the Hitachi, my wife hated it, but it grew on her. She now loves it. Loves it!
