Is douching dangerous for women?

I would only do it if recommended by a doctor. It can upset the PH balance inside a woman's vagina and cause discomfort, infection, irritation.
I tried it once after a period.....NEVER again! I had to go to the doctor because it caused burning and redness, she told me to stay away from the douches.

It's my understanding there are a few seperate issues, a lot of store bought douches have fragrances, and other chemicals, and yes it's a ph thing plus a reaction thing like some women being sensitive/alergic to scented tampons. while straight water can be a problem to, it is less likely to upset a healthy lady bit. the other problem can be though rare and might even fall into urban legend territory is damage caused by force, some hook up to the shower water supply and the concentrated water pressure can cause abbrasions and other damage.

You're right! Doucheing is not recommended. The vagina is self-cleaning, and it's really unnecessary. As mentioned, there are other issues if you're using a chemical or soap (yeast infection waiting to happen!). Yeah, I would stay away from doucheing.
However, this bulb is also meant to be used as an anal "douche" or enema, which is far less dangerous. I hear it doesn't work very well though, and isn't an effective product. And apparently the nozzle is silicone over plastic, so you probably can't boil it, either.

Pretty much as what everyone is saying, Id recommend only doing so if recommended by a doctor, its self cleaning.

It's unnecessary and can be dangerous.

I've douched with normal water during my period without any ill effects, though I know I probably shouldn't.

I have done it 4-6 times and I never had a problem.

I would only use that in my butt.

Vaginal, no. There's really no benefit, and there are known risks.
Anally (really a small enema), if you're careful, use water or saline, and keep it small and not too often you're probably OK.

I am really glad I read this. I did not know any of these things. Thank you everyone and Eden community!!

I'm pretty much on the same page as everyone else here; It really is good for causing irritation and infection and probably isn't very necessary. I have only done it about twice, several years ago. It wasn't the typical "fresh scent" kind of douche. It was specifically formulated to be Ph balanced ... It really didn't do a whole lot helpful wise but it didn't cause any problems either. Don't know if they still make it (or what the name was or brand, Sorry!!) but I haven't used any since and seem to be just fine.

vaginally it does fuck up your ph balance and can give you a yeast infection, but I think anally is fine.

It can give you an infection, especially if you use gross chemicals rather than just water.
However, occasionally a douche can be a good thing. I cured a case of BV naturally by douching daily with hydrogen peroxide and apple cider vinegar (and then putting a probiotic capsule inside my vag overnight).

Thanks for the tips everybody!

I don't douche, it ruins the pH of your naughty no-nos.

The above is a picture of an anal douche bulb! Used for totally different reasons than vaginal douching and has completely different side effects.

Some people like to do a shallow anal douche before anal play or anal sex just to clean out the last few inches of the digestive tract. This, if done infrequently has none of the problems that vaginal douching has.
This thin douche bulb wouldn't even work in a vagina.
It's for butts, people.

I agree with VelvetDragon. The vagina is self-cleaning. However, I have douched before when I had a bad yeast infection. I used a diluted betadine solution. I would stay away from Vagisil products as they can actually make a yeast infection worse.

If you do have itching or a yeast infection, I'd recommend eating lots of yogurt and even putting some plain greek yogurt in your vagina to help replenish the good bacteria. If you must douche, I've never had any problems with using diluted betadine solution or diluted hydrogen peroxide.
Anal douching I don't think is as dangerous, but I wouldn't recommend doing it often. Doing it before anal sex once in a while is probably not harmful.
