I don't think it's better than the real thing at all because you're comparing two totally different things. My husband, no matter what he's doing to me, will never feel the same way that a vibrator will, much like a vibrator will never be able to feel like my husband. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Sure, they're both round, but they're totally different.

Well, I don't like penises, so if the "real thing" = penis, then yes, I like vibes better. But if the "real thing" = sex with my Girlfriend, then no, I'd rather have sex than a solo session with my vibe.

Well, I suspect they're better than meaningless and/or mediocre one night stands, in that they're safer and they're a sure thing. But they're certainly not better than real sex with someone you have a real connection with and who hopefully cares about your pleasure at least as much as their own.
