Do you believe what the doc's are saying?

Contributor: CrystaCat CrystaCat
Did you know that according to Web MD. A standard condom will fit over a person's skull? So really one size fits all right? Wrong. Some company's make condoms that are bigger than standard, and they say some guys do need them. Do you believe what the doctors are saying?

I've seen people putting standard sized condoms over your head.

The thing is though, they have to inflate them and it's wicked tight.

Just because it's possible to get a standard condom on something larger doesn't mean that it fits properly.

That said, I really don't think most of the guys who use larger sized condoms tend to actually need them. It just makes them feel better. But it shouldnt, because they're often more likely to slip off or break when they're too big.

I haven't tried fitting one over my head, but I have been able to fit one all the way up my hand and arm. We also made a GIANT water balloon with one once. I was amazed how much water could fit in one.

I don't think any guy is too big that they wouldn't be able to fit in a condom, but I think the pressure might be pressing to hard on them for some guys. You want it snug, but not so tight that it's pushing the blood back outside of the penis.

Stretching it over your head is not the same as it fitting well on a penis. That's like saying "I can put this 13" dildo in a large vase, so it must fit in my vagina." Since different condoms are designed to fit at different points or with differently shaped penises, you have to evaluate the brand/type that's the best fit for you.

That analogy has nothing to do with the point you made.

It's certainly not possible with non-latex condoms! But I don't care if the condom can stretch to cover someone's head. It will be too tight on those of larger girth than 5 1/2, so magnums (and other large size condoms) are made for a reason. I do wish that they would make condoms for those with large girth but average length. The windsock effect isn't fun.

I'm going to say no, because if that were the case, why would several of my partners have ripped condoms by trying to put them on when they were too small?

I don't know. I've heard doctors say numerous things that ended up being bullshit. I don't trust doctors at all. I only visit mine when I'm on my death bed.

I want to be a physician and I think that WebMD is full of something not polite to talk about in company

Just because a condom CAN fit doesn't mean it's comfortable! It CAN fit a head, but is it loose and lubricated and comfy? No! It CAN fit a ginormous penis, but that doesn't mean it won't hurt him or cause him a lot of discomfort!

I take everything that WebMD says with a grain of salt. The last time I consulted that website, I was told that I was probably six weeks pregnant because I was experiencing lower belly pain and nauseau. It turns out I had a harmless cyst that collapsed in my ovaries.

If you really desire, I'll ask my real OB/GYN when I see him and see what he says.

Truly, guys.

It IS possible. There are a trillion and one videos on youtube of people doing it.

However, whether or not a condom expanded that way will be comfortable and truly fit appropriately on a penis during intercourse is an entirely different matter. At least, in my mind it is.

Well said.

I know I've seen a bunch of youtube videos and heard all the stories and I know it can be done, but not all condoms will fit all guys. I don't think there's an excuse for not wearing a condom to be safe. Not to say that one should always wear a condom, because there are situations where it's ok not to, but if you're in a situation where one would be a fantastic idea, I don't think there's a good reason to not wear one. There are a lot of different condom types out there and it's all about finding the one that works the best for you and your needs. Yes, that may involve a lot of experimenting and you may go through a lot of duds, but I think that a lot of accidental pregnancies and transferring of STD's could have been prevented if "I can't wear a condom because of _______" had been met with a response of "Ok, well let's research and find one that will work for you."

Just because it CAN stretch over a person's head, doesn't mean it's not squeezing the dickens out of him/her. And the non-latex ones can't do that at all. My boyfriend and I are latex-sensitive, so we use Lifestyles Skyn. They're polyisoprene. They hardly stretch enough to go over his cock, we had to buy the bigger size because it was actually squeezing the head of his penis so hard he often couldn't feel much else or finish while wearing one.

EDIT: I'm speaking from a thickness point of view, not length.

"All" condoms might physically "fit" most men, but they don't all fit comfortably. If your man is in pain (or conversely, the condom is too loose) he isn't going to enjoy himself.

I can still squeeze into a size 6 jeans, physically but I wouldn't want to spend any time in them. Y'know? My Man is physically in pain in standard size condoms, the larger ones fit, but are nearly impossible to find in non-latex form. Also, different shapes fit different men.

Also, a condom that is too tight, or doesn't go up the shaft far enough is more likely to break or slide off, so yes, some men DO need to use large sized condoms, if they want to use a condom and use one safely. And, like others have said, the non-latex condoms don't stretch all that much.

Why do some people get all weird about the penis-size thing? "NO, he can't be that big....." Yeah, some guys are. It's no reason to try to guilt larger men into wearing condoms that aren't comfortable or safe for themselves or their partners. Most men who wear larger size condoms don't do it for any other reason that they FIT better. Really. It isn't anything for anyone to get upset about. Saying otherwise is like saying, "No one really fits into a size 0 jeans.... cuz I can't.... and it effects my self esteem when others say they can." I think we need to grow up about the whole condom size issue and have sized condoms, like they do in Europe, without those who don't use the super-humongeous-giant sized condoms getting their shorts in a twist.

I know several men who have needed Trojan magnums to wrap their junk and it wasn't their ego talking. But, for the average penis size, a regular condom should do the trick.

LOL! That guy reminds me of a kid I used to know that would do the same thing only with a latex glove.

I normally distrust everything a doctor tells me.

Though condoms can stretch to well over the size of your biggest penis, does that mean it feels good? No. Common sense tells me that if you were talking to an actual doctor you would more likely than not find your doctor willing to say you got to find a brand that works for your body type, shape ect..Yes, the material can stretch, but like a latex glove it's baseline resting tension can be different I think, so makes sense to use what works.

I will admit, I have known many doctors who are so fact driven that they often times forget about common sense, but if you push the point they tend to become human again

I'm a lil above average size. So no worries size wise for me. As for a condom over ones head (skull) I've heard of it being done but never tries it myself!
