Metal is OK - but if you're a beginner silicone is the way to go. After you get the hang of it you can try metal - but for obvious reasons you better measure right!

I personally think I will be sticking to silicone. However I think the cockring ruins sex. Not because of how it feels, but because I am constantly checking with my partner as to how his member is doing. I worry about these things, and don't want any damage to occur from it is all. But I like the fact that the stretchy silicone can be gotten off in a hurry if need be, and the one we have does the job very well.

Start with silicone or adjustable, then move on from there. Metal offers weight and temp. play possibilities, but it's touchier.

If you want to try cockrings, start with silicone, as you might have to remove them in an emergency... and you can't get metal or plastic off quickly.

Silicone all the way.

I would start with silicone, there are a lot of good silicone options out there, like the beginner cock ring Tantus makes.

Definitely silicone- goes on faster and easier

I would go with silicone or something that stretches. I'm still to afraid to try a metal one (don't want to get stuck)!

Silicone has so many great things about it that it outweighs the rest of the options.
Easy to clean? Check!
Stretches? Check!
Comfortable? Check!
Durable? Check!

Silicone certainly seems to be the new "wonder material" for just about everything in sex toys.

I've tried them all even the silicone with metal supports, and pure Silicone is the BEST way to go in my book.

I love how silicone feels, but I've never used a metal one before.

I have to be the non-conformist here. I prefer metal. I like the extra weight, and I think they look cool. My lover likes the metal ones too. There's an edginess to the way they look that really turns her on.
I certainly wouldn't recommend metal for a beginner though. If you are just starting out, definately silicone.
