Read reviews before buying. The 2 most common problems with pussy pumps are a lack of suction (cheap pumps) and fit.
Shaving is almost an absolute, you'll never get suction with hair in the way. Using a good lube around the rim of the cup and the skin that it will contact helps create and hold suction.

GingerAnn - good suggestion on the clip pump. My wife is rather fond of this technique as well. The simple screw types actually work quite well. Once pumped a bit, I'll use a vibe on the plastic sleeve - it transfers the vibrations nicely - for added impact!
