Talked to my doctor today and she said there really shouldn't be a problem. I showed her a picture of the Smart Balls and she seemed interested in them LOL. She said the worst that could happen is that the ring could come out, but then again that's happened before, so it's no big deal. I really think she may look into the Smart Balls to purchase; she asked for the website and everything

Blinker, I could be wrong, but my guess would be there would be no problem. You put a penis and/or sex toys in your vagina, right? They don't dislodge the NuvaRing. The Smart Balls go in more shallow than a good size sex toy or a penis, so I don't think there is a problem.
I think it's cool that your doctor was interested. My old OBGYN might have been, but the guy I have now thinks I'm a nympho the way it is. (Not that he says it's a bad thing, he's just young and thinks it's "interesting" that I am as sexual as I am. He has a lot to learn!) I'm glad you were able to talk to your doctor about it.
I would advise (as a nurse, not your personal doc) that you DON'T take the Nuva out. Consistent Birth control is so important, you don't want to take a chance of forgetting to put it in or it drying up while it is not in place.
Do you know what the Nuva Ring is made of? I know it will dry up if not in place around the cervix or in the foil. I think it is an hydrous polymer (meaning a plastic like material that is high water content) but I am not sure. I can look into it, if you like.
