I have been seriously interested in buying a paddle. I am looking at a variety of whips and paddles and I don't know what I should try first. What do you think?
Should I get a paddle or a whip?

I chose paddle, because it is a personal preference. I like light play, so I'd prefer that.

I only have a paddle and I like it but I'm not that much into BDSM.

Get a paddle then.

Paddle, much safer for newbies and still as fun

Yup, it's easier to maneuver it for a beginner... ^^

I would get a paddle, but I'm not into pain really of any kind and it seems like a less painful/scary.

I'd get a paddle to start but they're both nice to have.

a paddle!

I prefer paddles to start with because there is just something more about the control of it.

Pfft, if you are just starting to get into BDSM, a paddle hurts. I was paddled tonight with the studded paddle here on EF and that shit hurts like a bitch. I'd much rather be whipped/flogged, atleast that doesn't leave as many marks/bruises, just stings. And crops? That leaves welts. Goodluck in your search! xoxo

As someone that doesn't really partake in this sort of "play" with my wife, we only have dabbled in it, I would say whip. We like the whip. Its fun and can get kind of funny at times, but it really isn't used for PAIN per se. The paddle just seems a bit...cheesy to us?

Paddles are nice.

If you've little experience get a paddle! I would prefer a whip, though

I'm more into floggers/whips myself, but paddles are easier to just take out and use. You really have to get your technique down with a flogger before you use it on anyone. That doesn't mean that a paddle doesn't take getting used to, but you can buy a less intense material (e.g. leather as opposed to wood) to get started more easily.
