How low will you go?

I'm sorry if this has been previously asked. But the more and more I learn on this site, if something says "jelly", I just move on. It's a shame because a lot of the toys look like a ton of fun. And I've tossed out my before-I-knew-better toys.

So how low will you go in safety ratings? And what, if any, precautions do you take when using something in the lower numbers (condoms, etc)?

Well let's see... two of my favorite materials, leather and the elastomer that is used to make Silky, are rated 7 by Eden on the safety scale. I also have a packer made of superskin, which is rated 5. Silky is the only insertion toy in that bunch, and I take precautions by using condoms and reserving him only for times when his special abilities are called for. I also retire Silkys every couple of years.

I think how you use the toy is more important than what it's made of. A toy doesn't become dangerous just because it isn't suitable for a certain type of play. But I draw the line at toys that have an offensive smell or any chance of leaking chemicals.

I stick with silicone and stainless steel toys since day one, it doesn't matter if some jelly/rubber toys look really inviting, I'm not tempted to buy any.

for internal toys I like 7 or above. 6 if it looks really good. If I end up with a free toy with a lower safety rating I will use a condom with it.

The lowest I go is about a 6, though most of my toys are 8 or above.

I've pretty much decided that I don't want to waste my time and money on cheaper toys anymore, now that I've tried and reviewed enough of them to know that they're all fairly similar. So jelly is a definite "no," latex is a "probably not," and plastic toys have to be amazing or they're a "no" for me too.

For internal toys, I basically stop at a 7.
