What happened? It burned all of a sudden!

Okay, first off, I did not get this from this website, but with all the posting in the forum I've been doing, it has me wondering if any of you will know WTF happened to my strap-on!

I bought a strap-on and harness a few years back and it worked great; I used it for pegging and occasionally as a dildo (by myself or with a partner). I'm not going to post a link to it b/c I'm not sure if that's okay, but it was purple, glittery jelly- I'm not 100% on the material because I haven't seen one review or website that says what it's made out of.

After using it for pegging quite a few times with no issues, I went to use it on my husband and he was complaining of burning. I was confused b/c I was using lubricant and everything and we'd never had this issue before. I stopped and then maybe a few weeks later, we were having sex and he used it on me like a dildo. It felt like it was setting my vagina on fire! It didn't look any different, had always been properly cleaned, etc...

Does anyone have any idea what could have possibly happened to this?

If it was jelly, that was likely the issue. Jelly has chemicals in it that can cause very nasty reactions, burning among them. And over time, jelly breaks down, making it more and more likely for those chemicals to leech out and turn toys into angry little infection-machines (they sometimes even come like this fresh out of the box!).

It's usually best to throw away jelly toys after a few months, a year at the most. Sometimes the material might last longer, but jelly's also very porous and holds onto bacteria even when cleaned very thoroughly. On that note, if you're sharing a toy (any toy) with your husband, be sure to use condoms for at least one of you. Anal bacteria isn't nice for vaginas.

Alternatively, if you get a silicone, metal, or glass dildo, you could boil it after using it on him and skip the condoms. Try investing in a toy of high-quality materials if you haven't already. They don't leech chemicals, are non-porous, and can last many years.

i agree, i think the chemicals were reacting wrong with the lube or break down.

Thanks for the info; after our last experience, we both said we weren'y buying any more toys made of the same material.

Yeah, he word "jelly" is the key here. Stick to better materials from now on. No more burning!

I had the same thing happen to me not too long ago. I pulled out an old jelly dildo that I loved and never had a problem with. I tried to use it and it burned the hell out of me! I only use it with a condom now. It sounds dumb, but I love the shape. I have my eye on the Raquel because it's the same shape and size. When I get it, I'm chucking the jelly. I'm only buying toys that are on the high end of the Eden Fantasy Safety Scale, now.
