I've heard that water-based lubes cannot be used with waterproof toys. Personally, this just sounds a little weird to me. Is that true or is it only true that water-based lubes dissolve in water?

Water based lubes will wash away quickly in water - hence not being the ideal lubricant in the shower, bath, hot tub, pool or Lake Minnietonka. Silicone lasts much, much longer in water.

But, other than that, there's really no reason water based lube can't be used with water proof toys.

Carrie Ann hit it on the head. Water based lubes are also water soluble and less effective in your shower/bath/neighbour' s pool.

They do work just fine on waterproof toys, though - they won't damage them, it just washes away if you use the toy under water.
For wet use, silicone or oil-based is the best choice (depending on the toy and the use).
