I have noticed quite a bit of reviewers tasting products that are not meant to be tasted or ingested. Does anyone know why?
Tasting Items?

I do this, simply because I feel that it is good to know. I can't tell you how many times I've applied a lotion or cream not meant to be eaten right before play and it has somehow gotten eaten or licked, and I like to know if I'm putting something on with the risk of it tasting like sweaty socks, or if it's going to be painless in the taste department. Often, I'll avoid products that may taste disgusting if I accidentally eat them, simply for that reason! Plus, think about all the different types of play there are. You may not want a dildo that tastes gross if your partner might end up having you suck on it!

Because most products are used during sex and sex usually involved licking, tasting so it's kind of something we throw in there just in case. That is why I do it anyway. When I review a lubricant, I lick it and rinse my mouth out because during sex lube is often used and sometimes people want to know what lubricant will be OK to use during oral and all. I also add that toys don't have a taste, I haven't came across one that tastes, but some people like to put them in their mouths is why.

I do it because it's good to have that information. I don't swallow anything, I just get it on my tongue and then rinse out.
I can't tell you how many vibrators I've licked to get the 'taste' part of a review done. May be silly, but hey, someone may want to know.

I lick vibrators for reviews because sometimes the taste can transfer to the body and then if oral is involved it may be an issue.
For lotions and such, I generally won't. I'm pretty sensitive to bad tasting things and I don't want to throw up...so there's just only so much I can do for a review. LOL I will taste lubes, but I don't like doing it. X.x

Of course, makes total sense to me now! Thanks for filling me in!

I taste things because when you are having sex you never know where it will lead. It's good to know if something is going to taste nasty so you can avoid using it when you go to do a certain thing.
Like a lot of water based lubes with glycerine deter me from wanting to go down on my partner because they have that horrendous chemical/sweet tate to them.

I only taste lubes and edible powders and paints.

If it is not meant to be ingested you really should not be tasting them. Licking unintentionally during sex probably won't hurt you, but dipping your finger in body butter is not ok! If the ingredients in these products were safe for ingestion, they would be listed in the edibles section!

Thank you all for sharing your reasoning for tasting these products, it's very helpful to know.

I don't taste anything that's not meant for the mouth.

I honestly don't know why either! If it's not meant to be "ingested" or isn't "edible" then why taste it? I know I'm not going to eat a product that isn't edible. I mean it may happen that if you put on lotion, or lube of course it may get licked off.

I try to only try things that are meant to be edible or licked. The last edible item that I tried tasted purely of soap
