I know most people absolutely love this lube, but when I try to use it, it feels like my genitals are on fire! Could it be due to the parabens? Any thoughts, or any recommendations for another thicker water-based lubricant?

I'm not sure if it's kosher to mention a competitor's product here, but BabeLube is a wonderful water-based lube that's comparable in thickness to Maximus.

Maximus is my go-to lube. I have very sensitive skin and have never had a problem with it.

Gosh, I wouldn't use it if it did that! Sorry about that! (Now I remember why I took it off my wish list!)

Eep! That doesn't sound good. I adore Maximus and have never had problems, but if it's irritating you, then you should definitely stop using it. I really don't know of any other water-based lubes that are comparable to Maximus and which are glycerin-free though (I stay away from glycerin containing lubes like the plague).

I use Meximus about 95% of the time. I like the consistency and the pump container
I am sensitive to so many substances in my vagina but Maximus works for me but some others caused UTI's and/or burning.
We are all different in many ways so keep experimenting. Good luck!!

Same here. But everyone's sensitivity to certain chemicals is different I suppose!

Could be any number of things. I suggest switching lubes, and try browsing for ones without parabens or glycerin. My fave lube is Hathor, and it's all natural. I think another you could try is Sliquid? I haven't tried it myself, though.
Try looking for lubes that would be deemed 'hypoallergenic' too.

I read somewhere (on the forum) that some lube manufacturers will give out free samples. You could do a search for paraben/glycerin free lubes (here on Eden) and them send a email to those company's and see if you can get a free sample. That way you will not have to buy something and through your money away.
Just a thought.

how goes the lube search this last month? have you targeted what might have been bothering you in the Maximus ingredients or is there a different lube you have now found that is working out better?

The problem with Maximus might very possibly be the parabens. I have the same problem, and the presence of parabens seem to have a suspicious correlation with painful experiences.

I have sensitive skin, too. There are lots of lubes I can't use or things get nasty, but I can use this one!

I also recommend the Hathor! I haven't had an adverse reaction to a lube before, but I just happen to love that lube anyway! It's all organic and specially catered to people who need more natural ingredients. It's pretty long lasting and while it's not as thick as maximus, it is a pretty good anal lube in my experience.

I use Sliquid Sassy, it's thicker than their H2O and is water-based (I'm not sure how thick Maximus is, I'm not sure I would try it since it does contain parabens and I'm not sure what I'm sensitive to exactly). They also have sampler-packs on their website, which could be super useful in finding the right lube that does irritate you!

I have horrible problems with my skin so my suggestion is to keep trying different ones until you find something that does not break you out. Use only a little of each at a time to make sure you are not going to have a reaction.

Although I haven't tried it yet, I've heard lots of great things about the similar BabeLube. What did you think of it?

donk
How thick is it? I feel like the ticker the lube, the better.

Maximus is nice and thick, but sometimes it does burn a little for me.

My bits hurt just reading the ingredients. I wonder why so many preservatives are necessary for this product.
I'm also very very very sensitive to most water-based lubricants - so much so that I have switched almost exclusively to silicone-based, at the expense of rarely using silicone toys any more Water-based are usually chock full of horrifyingly irritant ingredients, including glycerin, parabens and natural or artificial sweeteners (wtf). When I was using mostly water based lube (and, um, I go through a lot of lube from time to time), I regularly gave myself UTIs and yeast infections even though I kept my toys (and my partner, and myself) squeaky clean.
You might have to consider switching away from water-based lube if you're sensitive to the preservatives or to glycerin.
Sliquid makes a number of lubes that have neither parabens nor glycerin in them, if that helps at all.

Is Maximus a hybrid lube like its sister, Liquid Silk?
