Contributor: ToyTimeTim ToyTimeTim
Need advice for a lube that will work with silicone toys in the tub/shower, mostly for anal but wife might like to try it also.

In the shower, I've found Maximus works quite nicely. It's water-based and will not harm silicone toys. It gets washed away in the tub, though.

All the water based lubricants I have tried wash away pretty easily. Oil based lubes will last alot longer in the shower. I have no expierence with silicone lube.

Note: Oil based lubricants cause latex condoms to disintegrate.

My favorite for ass/toy play and no intercourse is Boy butter(Sold here). Just make sure clean up really well.

I assume that Boy butter is not suitable for vaginal use?

I dont know for sure.

Curious are you planning on letting the water hit the lube directly? How much water and friction the lube will "see" will determine the duration or life of the lube. Boy Butter is better than water based lubes but will wash off just not as easily or quickly.

Mostly for prostate play in the tub.
Silicon lube works great for a plastic vibe or a Aneros, but I just ordered a Silicon probe and don't know if it will be compatible with silicone lube.
Just trying to cover the bases.

Since i dont have any experience with silicone lubes I went and did some research there are some not water soluble silicone lubes available. Wet Platinum, ID Millenium, Swiss Navy are supposedly underwater friendly.

Im going to check Walgreen and Kmart tomorrow for silicone lube to try it out.

Wet plat: link according to EF its effective in water.

ID Mil: link

Silicone toys and silicone lube are not compatible form what i hear.

Some Silicone toys and lube will work together but not all. That is why i am looking for something different.
After reading a bunch of reviews I am going to try a oil based lube.(Boy butter) Just not sure if the wife can use it for intercourse.

There is some debate here. The most common answer is that oil based lubes are not good for the vagina and that they deteriorate latex condoms, but I believe those primarily apply to petroleum based lubes (i.e. vasoline). I have heard reports of people using coconut oil and other vegetable based oils vaginally and with condoms without issue.

That is kinda what i have gathered. All of her toys can be used with Silicone, but I ordered a silicone toy specifically so we could share.(not at the same time)
I just want to be on the safe side. Guess I could try the silicone on the base, if there is a reaction she could rap it with a condom.

I have heard of cancer patients that are expierencing chemo using Crisco shortening to help with vaginal dryness. Crisco is bean based and not petroleum. I have used crisco before, its not real slippery but got the job done, but there is alot of safety risks, so i wouldn't recommend it.

I bought a bottle of j-lube just to try this out. Jlube is a powdered lube that you just add water to and it turns into a lube. The 10oz of powder I ordered makes about 5 gallons and it only costs about 18$!

Here's a great FAQ on Jlube : link They say it works even under water if you mix it thick. I use technique 1 because technique 2 is a pain in the butt(no pun intended).

I would absolutely recommend coconut oil, almond oil or sesame oil. I've never had any issues using them vaginally and they hold up fairly well in water.

yeah, ditto on the ditto. For a commercial product that I also recommend, check out yes oil based at link.

On another tangent, you could also use a condom on your silicone toy and then also silicone lube. You could also just throw caution to the wind and hope your silicone toy and silicone lube don't get too friendly - you may find that it's not too much an issue, depending on what you have. Do a spot test on the base first, but any platinum silicone toy should be able to withstand some contact with silicone lube. Just make sure to wash with soap and a cloth before storage.

O.K. here is are my findings so far;
Boy butter, works good for shower if you don't let the water run over it constantly. Did not seem to bother wife. Her favorite for Shower fun with or with out me.

Coconut oil works wonders in the shower or tub. While we had no problems with it the wife did not care for the "feel " of it. My choice for solo water fun.

She has not tried silicone yet, (looking for work, no extra cash) but is on the list to try next. Like Red said we will try a small spot on the base and if that doesn't work we can just use a condom.

Just a word on Safety... Please remember that if it is not water based it will make any surface (not just skin) SLIPPERY and stay that way till you clean it up. Water based will wash away really quick but still use caution.

On another note the wife has a new vibrator from Evolved. Lets just say my dildo does no get much one on one time with my wife in the shower.

I've also used grapeseed oil successfully, but we don't use condoms, so I don't know if it's compatible with latex or not.

I have nightmares about silicone lube accidents in the shower with glass toys or my teeth hitting the side of the tub.

A rubber mat would be helpful here, if only for this instance.

I currently have a bottle of Better Sex in the shower now.

Thanks for the tip on lube, I was actually just looking at some new silicone lube.

We have a bath mat and it helps a lot.

And I have those same dreams. Not good thoughts!

If you're going to be using silicone lube get a 100% silicone toy and good lube. Most of the problems stem from cheap silicone (in either the toy or lube) OR the really nice but slightly more temperamental silicones used in real-feel silicone toys (VixSkin, O2).

I find that oils liquid at body temperature (all liquid oils and coconut oil) are less than wonderful for anal because they don't stick around very well in tight spaces. Crisco mixed with a little coconut oil (or other oil should work to) works OK anally, but we don't use it vaginally (the thick Crisco could trap bacteria in the vagina, but used anally it shouldn't be a problem). Straight Crisco I find a little thick for effective thrusting, but it's OK for slow play (I use it on my A-Bomb because it stays where it's put so well).

Be careful with any thick lube in the shower. Things are slick enough in there already.
