How do you wash silicone lubes out of orifices ?

Contributor: P'Gell P'Gell
My Man and I have never used a silicone lube. Many of our toys are silicone and I don't want to take a chance on ruining them (not even for a test with a drop of it.) Also I have a question. Most of the silicone lubes that have directions say to wash them off after use.

If one uses a silicone lube vaginally or anally, how does one wash it off (out?) after sex? It sounds like a dumb question, but if it's inside your vagina or anus, how the hell do you get in there to wash the stuff out? I don't ever use either anal or vaginal douches, nor will I start doing so.

I have an other question. We often go from PIV back to oral sex. If either my vulva or his penis (or both) are covered with silicone lube, what, if any risk does it give either one of us when we will get it in our mouths? Also, I can't imagine silicone is pleasant to have in one's mouth.

And I also want a bottle in the house to use to de-frizz my hair....

So, who has answers to these questions?

TIA.

I was a little concerned about this too, but after trying Wet's Platinum I was surprised at how easy this was.

The first time I used it was in the morning after my shower. We then went to have sex again in the late afternoon, and there was still obviously plenty of silicone inside me---and I was like "okay, how is this ever going to come out?" I, like you, wouldn't consider a vaginal douche. So I went into the shower and tried soaping up just the labia majora (Dr. Bronner's soap in a non-mint flavor (almond is my standard))---but I didn't want to get any closer than the labia majora to my vagina itself---and that actually seemed to do a fairly good job of cleaning me up. My partner had gone to work so I couldn't do a scientific repeat test, but a few dildos I tried came out without any silicone slipperiness or residue. I guess part of showering included bearing down a little. Also my partner and I are fluid bonded, so maybe his ejaculate helped the silicone clean out/up.

I guess after the first few trials vaginally for the review, I took to just using silicone lube to help insert butt plugs. (Vaginal lubricant isn't something I need on a regular basis.) I often keep butt plugs in 10+ hours, and the lube will still be present when I take the plug out. I ... hadn't worried about this before, because my favorite plugs are metal and glass, but now that I just acquired a silicone plug and probe, maybe I'm going to have to be more careful!

I hope my experience helped a little, but I hope someone else has some words of wisdom for us, because I'm not expert either.

Thanks, Antipova. My Man rarely comes inside during PIV, because that's our form of birth control. We, like you, mostly use lube for anal sex. I'm still kind of wondering how I'll "wash" it out of me.

Thanks for your experience, though. I appreciate it.

After a while it will come out on it's own. It's a very odd feeling because you can feel the lube inside of you after usage. But give it a day and it will wash itself out. As you use the restroom, etc. your body will wash all that out on it's own. Your regular vaginal fluid will wash the silicone out as it secretes throughout the day. Depending on how much lube you used it should only take a day or two.

Thank you. Do you wear a mini pad when that happens? I get a lot of infections and can't stand to have damp panties.

Well I guess I can't be sure that it's all out of there. I use Eucerin Aquaphor Baby Gentle Wash and Shampoo to wash myself, heck I even use it on my face because it's really gentle and doesn't irritate my skin.

I think your regular cleansing should do fine, and I've never noticed any residual silicone inside of me. I think that the vagina washes it out naturally, but I can't be certain of that; it seems like I read that somewhere though. Also, I find that after squirting I don't notice any silicone inside of me. There may be some left over, but if there is, it's not much. Antipova's cleaning routine is similar to mine... clean the outside and you should be good! I also agree with the part about my husband's ejaculate seeming to clean out the silicone.

Not sure about the health risks of having silicone in your mouth, but it doesn't really taste like anything. It does leave a nasty little film on my mouth though. It's not the most pleasant, but it happens occasionally and we just roll with it if we're using a silicone-based lube. If you are going from vaginal to oral though, I'd try to use a different lube.

Haha, I haven't used it in my hair yet, but that's because I'm in conservation mode right now. I need to order more Wet soon!

My wife and I are new to toys, we started with silicone toys and love the feel and easy clean-up. Like you we've been loathe to risk our beloved silicone toys and
are quite comfortable with the idea that only water-based lubes should be used.

Although we can't help but notice subtle commentary many places within the EdenFantasys community about how good silicone works or feels. Nobody gets ooh-aah about water based lube.

So, since we can't risk our silicone toys with the silicone lube, we're going to start collecting glass.

Thanks for starting this discussion, we hadn't thought about silicone clean-up or taste. Good to know before the first glass piece arrives.

I haven't had damp panties from lube, and we use a TON of it sometimes. I don't think a mini pad would be necessary. Just wipe away any excess or do a quick clean-up after sex and you shouldn't need one.

We use to use silicone a lot - until we found the Yes lube that we love so much.

We never took any extraordinary measures to clean up. I assume that as so many of you say the vagina is 'self cleaning' - that's why douching is really not necessary. We never used enough silicone for vaginal use that she would have to worry about it leaking out. That's one of the beauties of silicone is that so little is needed.

Obviously the silicone ended up on me - but it almost felt like a conditioner which I assume means that it was at least partially absorbed into the skin. Whether silicone is inert or not - there were no side effects for either my wife or myself.

We still use silicone for anal - mostly on me. Again there isn't so much that anything like a pad would be necessary.

As far as oral goes - once we start with any lube, oral is done. We don;t care for the taste of any lube, water, oil or silicone.

My read on the issue is the recommendation to wash is to get the lube off the skin and away from clothes so it won't stain. It's supposed to be pretty biologically inert, so I'd say don't worry about it much. You don't use much, so there shouldn't be much of an issue with leakage, although a little pad or tissue would help if you were concerned.

Of course silicone breast implants were also supposed to be inert, but there it's much more inside the body.

Dear P'Gell,

I use Silicone lube for PIV all the time, however I very rarely go from PIV to oral. I use the Pjur personal glide and it has no taste as such when going from PIV to oral. It does leave a sort of silky-ish residue on the lips and surrounding area but I have never really noticed a silicone texture in my mouth. I haven't looked into the health risks of ingestion of this lube but if I were to inquire I would check out the companies website/contact them/look at the toxicity of the ingredients.

In terms of cleaning it out, I haven't had to so. My partner will cum inside me, I will clean off with a damp cloth and there usually is a slight silicone residue still there (unless shower/use soap). I love the feeling of the silicone on my labia, it is so silky, so even if it doesn't come completely off I don't mind.

In fact, my mother has had very dry genitals since she had surgery to remove her uterus so I got her a bottle of the Pjur personal glide and she has been using it religiously. She loves it!

I agree with others about the vagina cleaning itself, I have never really worried about the lube as I know it will be cleared out in time. I still remain cautious however. If I have had PIV sex with my silicone lube, I will not use a silicone toy later in the day if I need to masturbate, I'll go with glass, just in case.

I'm extremely sensitive with lubes, but have never done anything special after sex with silicone lube other than just pee (which I always do after PIV). It seems to shed naturally after a few hours. I find that when I pee later in the day the excess comes off on the toilet paper when I wipe; I think it just takes a few hours for it to work its way down to the labia minora. I can't speak to the silicone-in-mouth question other than to say I have given head to my partner with some left on his penis and it made my mouth feel a little warm/numb, but that was it. Nothing problematic, just a little unusual.

GREAT QUESTION!!!! We have NOT used a lot of silicone lube for that exact reason. We do enjoy anal and use a LOT of lube, and after one lovely Friday night "session" with my hubby, I realized that on Monday I was still having this lube dripping out anally. Never had that happen with ANY other lube and very hesitant to use silicone lube again because of it, despite it being called "high premium" stuff. Yes, felt VERY good and VERY slick, but it is also a NON ORGANIC lubricant, elemental substance..something odd in putting that in me.

Actually, as far as health concerns go: dimethicone, one of the base ingredients in most silicone lubes, is also used in chicken nuggets. And if you deem something safe enough for vaginal or anal use, and the FDA deems it safe for food use in the US, it's probably pretty safe.

And now, if you'll permit a scientist to rant:
Sure silicone's not organic, but neither is zinc, and you accept zinc into your body every time your partner ejaculates... (If you mean "silicone's not produced by the body," then I'll grant you that point. But that it's not organic... well neither is water!)

Probably would feel a little weird, though, since it's not miscible in water, so I haven't tried it.

In my experience I have never had a bad reaction from residual silicone lube and silicone toys. Numerous times I have used a glass or steel toy with silicone lube before bed and then used a silicone toy the next morning with water based. This with no cleaning to speak of other than natural bodily functions.

After talking with Metis and Jenna from Tantus about the issue with silicone lube and silicone materials, I have had no fears about spot testing my toys. I did have one during my workshop testing that the lube adhered to, but it did not ruin the toy, it just made the surface a bit tacky. Even though that was Platinum cured silicone, it still was a cheaper variety. Still it did not affect the toy and and it still worked fine for use.

As far as ingesting it during oral. I have found little one way or the other good or bad. Certainly some of the lubes I have tasted for reviews were not that tasty, so I am not sure if you would even want too. At the very least I would think that ingesting it may lead to, um how to put this nicely...increased regularity, but that may take a lot to happen.

You have no idea how much non-organic ingredients that you consume every day. Antipova mentioned a few - how about that nasty stuff called salt - NaCl - sodium and chlorine, certainly nothing organic there.

Last time I looked chlorine was poisonous - so how come we're not all dead? Silicone lube in any amount that you could use will not cause any undue physical problems. Although I wouldn't drink it - it's labeled use is perfectly safe.

I have used silicone lube just a few times, a friend gave me a bunch of samples. It certainly worked esp. for anal but somehow, I just don't like the feel of silicone lube on my body and in my body afterwards. (We go from PIV to anal) It just seems to uncomfortably linger and not always ready for a protracted shower after sex.
Since most of my toys are made of silicone, I also don't want to chance damaging a toy.
