For all you curvaceous women out there... Lingerie Poll

Contributor: SaMiKaY SaMiKaY
Not that I am trying to leave anyone out, but this poll is really for plus sized woman (1XL and up). Tonight was my last straw with these lingerie companies that use size 5 models to show off their plus sized lingerie.

I want to gain some information from my fellow curvy women to include in a lengthy letter/article geared towards those companies who consistently showcase skinny woman as plus sized.

Here is my question:

As a plus sized woman, would you be more likely to purchase more lingerie that ISN'T tailored to your body IF there was a truly plus sized woman wearing it online?

I didn't vote, but I'm another thin person supporting your cause. I would like to see lingerie modeled by a flat chested person - at least the few pieces that would work on such a person - so I'd have an idea how it would look on me. I only have that on pieces modeled by the mannequins.

I didn't vote either, but I wanted to join in with everyone else on this. I'm a size 6 and some of the "plus sized" models look like they might be my size or a size bigger. Size 6 may be plus sized in fashion, but in general not "plus sized." They should feature 1x, 2x + models for plus size lingerie as this would give a better idea of the actual fit. How do you know how something will look on a size 18 by looking at someone who is a size 8 wearing it? That's silly!!

I completely agree with your comments. It would be totally nice to see a true fit example for plaus size women. My friend won't even consider shopping online because she can't get a good visual of a body type close to hers. I support your plight.

I'm right on the cusp of Large and plus size, depending on which is the critical measurement. If you go by hips, I'm plus sized. If you go by just bust (things that flare out), I'm a large. I prefer seeing women with dimensions close to mine, but the pictures always show the two ends of the spectrum (thin or quite plus-sized). Hence, why I prefer buying lingerie in person. The pictures don't tell me a thing about it's fit on my body.

if it was truely aplus sized lady yes but sometimes what they say is plus really isnt that plus sized so it gets to be catch 22

I have talked to several women on here and other places and they all agree. If there was a more "real" plus sized woman modeling the lingerie, they would purchase it more.

It's hard for me to imagine a piece of lingerie fitting me when I see it on a skinny model... So yes, if I saw a plus size model wearing lingerie it would be a lot more helpful and I'd more than likely make a purchase! That's for sure!

One of the most important reasons to have a plus size model wearing the items is so that you can see how they change the item to accommodate a bigger woman. This is most obviously seen in the cup size of pieces, and in some items the cup size for the plus size is NOT changed enough to fit women with a large bust. Showing this would let plus size women with and without large breasts know how this will fit them, and the bust size is crucial in lingerie.

100% support! I am totally not impressed with many of the plus size models. Although there is two that are actual plus size. I think they are dream girl models.
Coquette

I wish more ladies like this were used.

I'm a 3XL and I hate the lack of good lingerie out there. I may be single, but I want to feel sexy when I'm masturbating, too.

I'm right on the border of plus size. In 'real' clothes I'm under a 1x but in lingerie I'm often a 1x or bigger. It would be nice to see how certain lingerie fits on women that are my size but considering the industry, that's highly unlikely to change soon.

My biggest problem with the plus-sized models that a lot of companies use is the breast implant aspect. Most plus sized women I know (myself included!) do NOT have boobs up to their chins. I'd much rather see a photo that depicts what the lingerie is actually going to look like on my chest!

(I love the brunette Coquette model above, btw!)

I won't buy plus-sized anything if there's no picture of a plus-sized woman actually wearing the product. The problem with photos is that, even on plus-sized women, cloth can be pinned in such a way that it looks like it hugs everything in just the right way, which always irks me.

This is why I appreciate plus sized lingerie reviews who post pics- I posed a pic even though it was unflattering, just so folks had a realistic idea what it looks like on a real big body...

I think the blonde lady is so beautiful! She's not as big as I am but she does look like at least a size 14.

This is a really good point. Too often when we bash the media and culture for parading around "unrealistic" models, we mean they are airbrushed and thin. But what about short women? What about smaller-chested, or even very very large-chested women? Let's remember that switching all the models to size 14 curvy ladies would be just as wrong.

I'm a size 22 and when something says it would fit 22-24 I cant see how it actually fits. Even when they use a "plus size" model it may be a 14 or something small like that.
