Back Seam on Hosiery... yay or nay?

Contributor: Breas Breas
I had never seen a back seam on stockings until I came here to EF (yes I live a sheltered life)..

The Poll question is:

Are you a fan of the back seams? Or are they not your style...

I'd also like to know (which can be included in the comment section), whether you would wear these only with a sexy outfit for the bedroom, or would you wear them out as well. I guess I am just used to no seams at all on stockings, but so many of them here at EF have them and I am not sure what I think about them.

Do you wear them in public (if you wear a dress or skirt)? If you haven't, would you?

I don't necessarily have a preference one way or the other, but there's a classic feel and look to the backseam stockings that I just love. I have worn them in both the bedroom and out in public with no issues.

I need some new stockings to wear out when I am wearing a dress, and the stockings I've seen on here that I really like all have back seams. I have never worn them before, so I don't really know if I like them or not (because Im used to seamless). I wouldn't care if they were used for bedroom use, but I really would like a pair that can be worn both in private as well as in public

<--- Backseam stocking queen

I collect them whenever I can. I LOVE backseam stockings, especially when they contrast - like black seams on nude hose. Very classy, retro, and extremely sexy. I wear them both ways when I wear an outfit worthy of them.

This is from a recent photoshoot for Master.

Thanks. But, really, backseams add an extra 'oomp' to everything you do when wearing them. Besides, what guy can't resist seeing a woman hitch up her skirt over her thigh and straighten her stockings? (Granted, that's the only drawback to them, but clear nail polish helps keep them in place.)

BTW - the ones I'm wearing I got from here - the seam ends at the top of the ankle so it doesn't bother your feet. The foot is solid so they're more comfortable.

Even the ones I have that the seams go down my feet I haven't had a problem with, and I've gotten them all from here. For general public use, I'd only limit my suggestion to more "traditional" things like black and nude pantyhose rather than bright colors or fishnet stockings with a backseam.

I adore backseamed stockings. It makes me feel glamorous, and fits in perfectly with the 50s pin up style I rock when I decide to dress high femme.

I would wear them out, if they suited the outfit.

I like the look of "some" back seams...sometimes and on some people, they just do not look that great. I very rarely wear any hose, so I really don't spend the money for a seam...I look more for quality first.

I'm going to be different here and say no. They break up the continuity of the leg, and there's really no reason for them except that they used to be necessary to make the hosiery.

Here's another incentive, sktb - they make your legs look longer. Same effect as wearing vertical stripes.

I love back seams. I'm really short and have really short legs. Back seams help my legs look like more than just little stumpy appendages.

I agree, nothing sexier than a woman straightening her stocking. My Man has play-yelled at me in restaurants, "Quit that, you're giving everybody here a hard on!"

I would like that.. but you had mentioned something previously about nail polish? I didnt really understand what you meant by that..

this is what you said --->(Granted, that's the only drawback to them, but clear nail polish helps keep them in place.)

I would be concerned of the seam not staying straight. What is this tip about nailpolish?

Dab a bit of clear nail polish over the seam at either your ankle right over the back of your heel or right over the highest point of the solid triangle (depending on if you get solid foot or seam foot stockings). You can also do the same just below the crook of the back of your knee. That usually keeps the seam in place and doesn't show much. This, of course, also means that you have to take them off carefully if you want to wear them again.

I usually wear just-below-the knee skirts with mine, so I don't worry too much about the seam being off above my knees.

If you really don't want to bother with all that, get backseamed pantyhose. The seams stay in place much better.

Also ... you could try just drawing seams on your legs with an eyebrow pencil. It was done during WWII when silk and nylon were being used for parachute production, and stockings weren't available.
