The environmental movement has gained quite a bit of steam in the last 10-15 years. Regular people are now aware of recycling, alternative energy, and how to reduce their carbon footprint. Why then is it still rather taboo to discuss the issue of "greener sex" in the environmental movement and why are there only a handful of facilities worldwide that will recycle sex toys? (I just wrote a SEXIS article on this.)
Why do you suppose "green sex" is still taboo for most?

Think the better question is "why is sex still taboo?". Once we solve that equation, other doors will open.

Good point Stormy! I think the taboo exists in greater or lesser degrees depending upon in which culture you live. Some societies are much more open about sex than others. Still, there is this huge "ick factor" with recycling sex toys when they are simply items that need a second life to be saved from landfills and incinerators just like anything else.

I think, to some degree, it's pure ignorance on the part of those whom are scoffing. They refuse to believe that melting down silicone and recycling mechanical parts is a good thing. All they can think is "ewww someone else's vaginal fluids or semenal fluid". We've been taught to fear everything that is amazing about sex.

Yeah, I also think its just the sex part that people don't want to talk about. Especially people understand sex between two people is romantic, but you are gross if you want to stick some "green" in your sexy parts. lol
