Is this legit?

I'm wondering if anyone here has used this -
link service to dispose of broken, used up, or unwanted toys. A friend of mine is looking into 'recycling' some of her glass and silicone butt plugs that she hasn't used in awhile. Her boyfriend expressed interest in using the silicone and glass plugs, but she's afraid to let him use them. I'd assume since they are glass and silicone and boilable/bleachable that they are safe for her to give to him since they are engaged and already fluid bonded.

Any thoughts?

It's pretty safe to give those toys to him, because yes, they are sterilizable.

Okay, I have to ask you: why don't your friends ever make accounts for themselves? It seems like every post you make on the forums is asking a question for a friend.

The only reasons my friends don't make accounts for themselves are kind of silly in my reasoning now, since I'm so open about sex toys and I even have my own personal blog up for reviewing toys, but they're all really timid and since I used to work in a brick and mortar sexuality center, they all flock to me to post their questions. That, and the fact that most of them don't have computers of their own to use, and they can't go to a library to ask these sorts of things.

I do ask alot of questions for friends now that you mention it.

When they get computers of their own and internet, you can bet I'll be nagging them to make their own forum accounts. :p

I actually have a few things I've packaged up to send to that recycling program. Haven't sent them yet, but it seems very legitimate and it's a certified green program.

Awesome. I've been musing on whether or not to send some of my own things in. Every little bit for going green helps.

I have my doubts about that company so if anyone has used the company and gotten legitimate email codes back from them, I'd like to hear about it. I have seen other similar things online that were not what they purported to be, so I'm a little skeptical.

It seems legitimate to me. Plus it was featured in Rolling Stone. You would think RS would do their homework on a company before featuring them.

Did you read the4 article in RS? I own the issue, and even though it was listed (in small text) on the front cover, the article was less than a quarter page and had very little info. The only link outside of the homepage was that of a new online sex toy store owned by the same people.

Do you think they're reselling the sex toys for profit instead of disposing of them?

They sell Lelo and other high-end toys on that store.

I highly doubt you could sell someone's jelly rabbit as a Lelo...

No, not at all. I think they're just the middle man and having other recycling services actually deal with recycling the toys. My guess is that they send them off or have them picked up by a 3rd party service provider and get paid for the materials. And I am curious about how they are working their affiliate program regarding participating companies. It seems like it may just be a way to bring business to their store.

At any rate, if it were as simple and noble as it seems on their site, a lot of companies would already be doing this. We've looked into toy recycling options and it's complicated; it involves multiple parties, health and safety certifications and more.

So would there be a chance for a program like that at EF in the distant future? That would be really awesome if so!

Technically, silicone toys can be cleaned and sterilized completely, so reuse is possible.

Same thing with metal, glass and ceramics.

I have my own personal recycling service: my friends. If it can be sterilized, I clean it all up and hand it off to them. If it's something that can recycled, I just sort it with regular recyclables and gut the motors if it has them. Anything porous or non-recyclable that can't be melted down, I'm forced to throw away, but that's rare.

Is there anyway to sterilize a toy that takes batteries so you don't mess it up or melt it? I have a vibrator I never use, unless my husband is using it on me. But we have two double ended dildos and I like those better anyways. A friend of mine is pregnant and wants a toy, because her guy is out of the state for god knows how long. So if I can actually sterilize it so that it's like new I'd be willing to just give it to her. It's like recycling it because I don't use it hah.

I'd like to know this too. I paid over $80 for a silicone dual vibe a couple of months ago, used it twice and realized that it hates me. So it's either figure out how to sterilize it and find someone who can use it, or toss it (and I'd rather do the former).

Silicone (if it's 100%, medical grade silicone) can be sterilized fully. Giving your already used things to other people is a great way to have them reused. Remember, it's REUSE, reduce, THEN recycle.

As for the vibrator that you're planning to give to your friend, it depends on what type of material it is.
