Do You Consider Wood to Be A GREEN Sex Toy?

Contributor: boobookittyfuk boobookittyfuk
Wood-bio degradable, trees can be replanted.

If they are being made by a "green" company, they probably plant more trees than they cut down.

never thought about it

Don't discount the biodegradable aspect! That's a huge huge advantage over toys that are going to stick around for forever, or release toxins if they're taken apart.

Use regular paper? Wooden doors? Tables? Anything like that came from a tree. Thankfully the tree (like all plants) has no nerves to speak of, and so can't feel physical pain. Likewise, any fruits or veggies you eat, assuming they're fresh, are technically still alive when consumed, but they won't feel it. Many wooden sex toys are made of wood from sustainable tree farms or scrapyards, preventing lasting damage from being done to the surrounding area and the environment as a whole. Plus, wooden toys will break down much faster than many other toy materials. Really, wooden toys are among the most eco-friendly of the bunch.

I don't know much about the manufacturing of plastics or silicones... but I'd imagine that those processes produce quite a bit of pollution. I'm curious about it, actually. I think that wood is pretty green sex toy material, especially considering how little wood actually is needed to make a dildo when compared with a house, a piece of furniture, etc.

Re: paper manufacturing.

Making paper produces so much effluent it's crazy. That's waste water that is released as pollution into the environment. I used to compile "green audits" on small businesses and was continuously surprised by the sheer volume of waste water that is the byproduct of paper manufacturing.

And yes, for sure I still use paper. I just try and be conscious about not wasting it. (Using the backsides of pages for printing drafts, etc.

A lot of the wood toy company makers will only make toys from replanted forests. (I can't think of the name, but it's where a tree is always replanted for one used). In fact, Hans from Hardwood Dildos (manufacturer we have on EF) attempts to use large wood scraps from other, large projects or wood from fallen trees wherever possible in order to do the most "renewable" thing possible. It's actually amazing.

There is sustainable renewable wood farming that can be as green as any agriculture can.

Yes it's made of trees, but the amount of wood used in sex toys is NOTHING compared to almost every single other thing we make out of wood.

It's much greener than plastics and other high energy production sex toy.

I think it can be considered "green" because the companies that make wooden dildos use wood from sustainably grown & harvested forests, not like...cutting down the rainforest or anything. It is significantly greener than anything made of plastic, because it is not a petroleum product, and the manufacturing process isn't polluting.

That does make sense. But I guess as long as you replant the trees you destroy then it's green.

Depends on what you consider green...

In the case of killing those poor darlin trees, well I wouldn't wanna do it either...

In the case of the material used, imagine that the stuff you leave behind doesn't just disappear after a few years or decades...

The best would be to know that when you buy a wooden toy another one tree is planted... Let's just keep the balance...

Wooden sex toys use a very small amount of wood are are typically sourced from responsibly-managed forests.

On the contrary, the "greenest" thing out there would be to NOT BUY ANY TOYS at all.

Just wanted to pop that in there. I remember a thread a while back about what product you would purchase to celebrate Earth day. I believe the Earth would appreciate it most if we partook in less needless consumption. Renewable or not.

I agree with the others that it comes from a renewable resource, but I'm not sure how these toys are packaged. You could take a green toy and make it un-green if you ship it in plastic like the rest!

And now I wonder...is the sealant considered green?

definitely green. Think about the chemicals put into the air by simply producing many other materials out there, where wood is a renewable resource and doesn't poison our air in the process of just making it, let alone replacing batteries or the toy itself..

It depends really, wood can be regrown, it is after all a renewable rescource. It is also biodegradable, and wood can easily be recycled so i think it is actually pretty green. I think they should look into making some hemp based products for EF. Hemp oil is very gentle for massaging, hemp pouches would be cool. And i am thinking there would be a way to make hemp based lubes as well. This would be great and it costs much less to grow and produce than trees.
