Planning a Care Package: Am I missing something?

Contributor: Lady of the Lab Lady of the Lab
The care package would be for a female friend who's in a distant northern land (well, still technically part of the states). She's a volunteer and works at a radio station.

So far I've chosen:
- Bar of chocolate
- Bookmark
- Letter

Any other suggestions? Or share any care packages you've made before.

My friends love to send cute, nerdy socks. (: Like, if she really likes cats, get her some socks with cats all over them! A little sampler of body products is also good.

As a college student my parents always send food, but since it's summer there is a risk it could melt or perish.

Thanks for sharing, she really likes Harry Potter so maybe I can find some socks that are Harry Potter-themed.

If your friend is working in a remote location, I would add a few packs of moist wipes specifically "Kleenex Splash 'N Go!".

Whatever she cannot get that she is used to where she lives. And depending on the climate where she is, maybe some herbs and spices for an indoor garden if she will be there for a while.

Personally, an iTunes gift card if she's access to a iphone or ipad so she can pick and choose her own books, Amazon gift card...

I'm agreeing with the other suggestions on items from home she can't get where she is currently at. Hat, gloves, scarf set, warm socks, books, etc.

Get a good and moisturizing lip gloss as the body product! They're always a good care package addition. (I love Burt's Bees.)

OH! How could I have forgotten??? Whenever my mother sends me a care package, she always includes a MAD magazine. I do have to say though, they went down hill from when I first started getting care packages in the 80's. But a tradition is a tradition!

I think a hand salve or lotion would be useful, if it's cold there might be nice.

Toss in something that's local to your area or unique to you. Either way it's always a pleasant surprise to get some fun mail!

Write her a letter telling her all the things you miss about her. Get other friends to write one as well. It is always nice to know you are missed.

Something to keep her warm at night, be it a toy or a nice throw blanket or anything else. Also cold climates tend to dry out the skin so a moisturizer would be good.

Food from home she can't get there. Years ago after my family moved from California across the USA, a friend sent my mom Rosarita refried beans and See's chocolate
