What is the "big hype" about dildos?

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
I could never figure out how come so many people love dildos, and get them so diligently...

Though of course when it comes to a special shape, size or material, any unique features, it's totally understandable...

But I always wondered, cause you can just get a vibe, and if you don't want vibrations you can just enjoy it as it is, as long as you want vibration in your life...

I'm much more a vibrator girl myself. I do have a few select dildos I love for their realistic material - something you can't find in a vibrator. If I really like the shape of a dildo and can't find it in a vibrator I'll buy it for that reason as well.

I love dildos. I use to hate vibrators cause they just weren't realistic enough for me.
If I get a realistic dildo, I want it as close to the real thing as possible. If ya can't have the real deal, then the next best is a realistic dildo.
Yeah, I could get a realistic looking vibe but it still doesn't cut it for me cause real cocks don't vibrate. In fact, I don't like realistic vibes at all!
I have one, but only cause it was a gift.

I prefer harder materials for dildos, even better if they are curved. I don't know of many glass or steel vibrators, especially in the right shape, so this is why I have the collection of dils that I do.

Harnesses are a big part of this equation. Lots of people who buy dildos aren't using them on themselves exclusively, they're strapping them on. Can't do that with most vibrators

I think it just depends on what you're looking for.

If you don't prefer vibration, there's no reason to get a vibrator. Especially because many vibrators are most expensive than dildos.

Additionally, a lot of vibrators don't have that "natural" shape many dildos do. Sooo if you really like the whole super realistic thing, dildos are also a superior option.

I used to wonder this myself, but I've come to the decision that dildos are my favorite kind of sex toy, and I prefer them over vibes most of the time.

I've found that internal vibrations, while nice, are something I wouldn't really miss in most cases. There's also the fact that mechanical parts can alter the way a toy feels or (if it's a soft dildo) limit its ability to flex. My VixSkin Tex and Super Soft Mark just wouldn't be the same if they were vibrators.

Furthermore, a well-made dildo of high quality materials can last a lifetime, but the odds of a motor doing the same are a lot slimmer - a very good vibe may last a long time, but all machines break down sooner or later. I like knowing that some of my toys will be with me forever if I take care of them, and won't rattle or click from loose or broken parts.

And don't worry - you're not "getting something wrong." You just have your own tastes and have trouble understanding other people's, that's all. That's very normal. If you like vibes more, then I say enjoy them to the fullest extent!

I personally love vibrators but sometimes dildos are a nice change and they feel great in a different way for me than vibrators. Plus dildos with harnesses and double dildos are fun without vibrations.

I like dildos once in awhile because they don't bring me to this crazy instant buzzy orgasm like vibrators tend to do. For me they're for extended me-time only as I take awhile to get off without vibrations.

I will say I own a lot more vibes than dildos though. Maybe once I get the Pure Wand I'll be a total convert.

When I got my first glass dildo (Bent Graduate), I finally understood all the fuss. G-spot heaven. I also kinda like realistic dildos if I'm not getting any for awhile; I miss the feel of an actual flesh-n-blood cock.

Heee! The Bent Graduate is awesome!

But more seriously, your comment about extended playtime made me remember something I read a while back: I forget her name, but some designer of luxury glass dildos was apparently of the opinion that vibrators were just the "cheap and easy" way of getting to climax - like using a vibrator was cheating somehow (as in, cheating at a game, not on a partner).

I don't know if anyone here on EF shares that viewpoint, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people in the world did. So that might be another reason to prefer dildos, though not the friendliest one...

I think a lot of people have shared a lot of good opinions, and I'm right there with them: textures and shapes that can't be done with vibrators, solid construction, harness compatibility, the fact that a good dildo can never break (unlike even the nicest vibes)... and, if you don't really need internal vibrations, why buy something that won't last a lifetime just to have a feature you don't need so much?

Also, I find a lot of dildos to be really sexy. I mean, look at the Eleven. It's ... just sexy. I want it inside of me. There are very few vibrators that have the same pure sex appeal.

Lot of good points so far. I used to prefer vibrators or rabbits, but have found myself lusting after dildos due to the material (firmness of glass or softness of O2 or vixskin), the flexibility, and the sexy designs and shapes of a lot of them. Plus the fact that they will not break the way vibes tend to (eventually).
I've been more satisfied with the glass dildos and soft silicone toys I have tried lately than the vibrators, enough so that I haven't missed the internal vibrations that I normally love. I think that if they come up with a dual-density silicone vibrator that works well, it would be the best of both worlds. Just have to be careful of keeping a certain amount of flexibility to it.

I prefer dildos because they're more discreet. They don't buzz, and you don't have to worry about them turning on by themselves.

You can use a bullet with some dildos or use a Hitachi Magic Wand to make an entire dildo vibrate.

How true, I always prefer the more realistic shapes and textures too (better to say equally with the most various textures), and I do miss the feelings of the realest realness when my Master is buried into work for a week or more... (Wonder who wouldn't... ^^)

Well I must say I agree up to a point, because for me vibrations are the easiest way as long as they are strong enough, and I use it the ways pleasurable enough for me...

I also try to "train myself" sometimes, use only non-vibrating toys, so I can get used to it even more that there are no buzzes...

Well, the reason actually is that I need some time and arousal to get "tuned in", which is normal as long 20-25 minutes or a wee bit more does the job and warms you up - but, I do wanna be as practiced that I could just come in a few moments, like on command for example, it IS possible, it is learnable, so I try to remind myself from time to time that what I try with dildo items are essential for the purpose...

On the other hand, like it is raved about the Sybian (which I soooooooo badly wanna own), vibration, and pretty much any other arousal you enjoy, helps you train yourself to enjoy such things the fullest - so yep, the dildo only myth isn't entirely true, but there is BIG truth in it...

My experience is exactly the same!

I used to use vibrators pretty much exclusively, and I never really understood why anyone would want a dildo. Then I got my first dildo... and now I pretty much use dildos exclusively. Internal vibrations really don't do that much for me either, but the firm pressure against my g-spot really works. Now most of my vibrators are retired (except for my favored clit vibes) and my collection of dildos is MUCH larger!

Agreed...

I am on the prowl to get everything for a lifetime, concerned about the economy, so I am more and more for obtaining a few finer dilddos too...

Some dildos have a hole in their bases intended specifically for bullets. For any dildo in general, just insert the dildo into your favorite orifice and press the Magic Wand against the base of the dildo.
