vixskin leaves oil spots on t-shirt

Contributor: Tuesday Tuesday
I love my wonderful new Vixen Lonestar, but its leaving oil stains on the t-shirt fabric that I wrap around it for storage. I do this with all my dildos so they don't touch. I assume that plasticizer is leaking out of it.

Is it safe? Has this happened to anyone else?

I emailed Vixen but they haven't replied.

That's very odd! I hope that you get a response back, I was thinking of getting a Vixskin dildo so I'd like to know, too.

Its been a few weeks since I emailed them. I don't think I'll receive a response.

Ahh, well, alright. Maybe you can just store your dildo in a plastic baggie or something? I'm trying to think of what you can do to keep it safe, but what you did seems like it would be fine.

Given that it's a silicone toy, there shouldn't be any "plasticizers" in it at all, and things can't leak out of good silicone. Period. And VixSkin is very high quality. That said, something could be on the surface of your toy.

Possibilities that come to mind are that perhaps there was a lubricant (perhaps oil-based so as not to interact with the toy) applied to the mold to make removal easier when it was made, that hasn't washed off properly. A light one might not be noticeable to the touch, but still be enough to stain. Also, consider if your lubricant of choice might not be coming off completely using your washing method of choice (I don't know what you use or how you wash it, so I couldn't say). If you're using a regular soap, things like vitamin E or aloe may be left behind on the toy when you're done cleaning it.

Either way, a heavy washing with a basic soap, or even a gentle detergent, might be in order. Don't scrub it with a sponge or anything, as the soft outer silicone could tear, but a gentle rub-down with something stronger than you usually use could help. Bleach or boiling may or may not help, depending what the problem "gunk" is made of.

Good luck clearing this up!

My guess is that Luscious Lily is on the right track - probably lube or soap residue.

The only other thing I could think, is if you happened to get a defective toy and the suspended silicone lube is leaking somehow? (I'm not sure how plausible that is. Just brainstorming.) But I'd think that would mean the toy itself would be melting/tearing/otherw ise breaking down.

From Vixen's site: "Our exclusive formula contains a premium silicone lubricant (just like that used in the most popular silicone lubes), suspended between the molecules, giving a more realistic feel and greater elasticity." link

I have a VixSkin toy and have never experienced a similar problem, though.

Excellent advice, Luscious Lily!

I have never heard of Vixen dildos being returned for this reason, so hopefully it's some odd fluke.

@ Tuesday: please keep us posted!

Thanks! I had another thought. A while back there was a thread about a Tantus dildo that was sticky, and it turned out that it had been a fluke mis-mixing of the silicone. Happens sometimes, and once in a blue moon it makes it past quality control. If you can find a contact number, you might have better luck making a call. Sometimes emails get checked or changed.

Our first thought was: "Was silicone lube used with it?" - because that really does a number on the texture of most silicone toys.

I've only used Maximus with it. Nothing else. I wash it before use, then soak it in hot water. Once its warm I apply Maximus, use it, then wash it again with an unscented liquid hand washing soap. I don't think its the lube. Maximus doesn't leave oily marks on fabric.

I've used it and washed it many times, but I guess that doesn't mean that something inside it from the beginning isn't continuing to come out.

No one else stores dildos wrapped in cloth? I guess I'm just anal about toys touching.

The first week I had it I left it out on the bathroom counter. It never looked like something is coming out of it and it didn't feel like there is a film on it either.

I really wish Vixen had replied to my email.

Kaijah, I wonder if the 'premium silicone lube' they use is what's coming out. That sounds like the most likely possibility.

I haven't noticed any oily residue coming off the Vixskin one I have.
How long did it take to notice the oily stains on what you wrapped it in?

I wrap my Vixskins in a papertowel and put them in a plastic bag. Sometimes the material sweats- there are several types of silicone used in Vikskin-which is why it costs more and feels so realistic. I know their from using their packers that the balls and dick pressed together for extended periods will ruin its shape, but i seperate with fabric, and their is never staining or oily residue.

I have quite a few VixSkin toys, my only problem has been lint which I control somewhat by storing my VixSkin toys in individual zip lock bags.
I think your issue is a defective toy; I hope they get back to you....

I keep all my toys in cotton bags and I have two Vixskin toys neither of which has exhibited any staining or oily residue on the bags.

They were wrapped for a week at the most when I first noticed the spots.

It has been a year since your last post. Was your issue ever resolved? I've been thinking of buying a Vixskin product, but one of my peeves is lousy customer service.
