Tips for Beginners

Contributor: yeehawcutie yeehawcutie
Hi! I'm 18 and didn't have any sex toys up until recently. I don't have a lot of experience or knowledge concerning how to go about trying new toys. Does anyone have any general tips for someone new to this whole scene?

Hi. Lube is your best friend.
When I first started messing around with toys, I figured out how much of a stretch I could handle by seeing how many fingers I was comfortable with, measuring their total width, and comparing that to the provided diameter online. I knew from previous experience that I liked the feel of silicone (I was on a swim team --> silicone swimming caps were heaven in my hands), so I found myself immediately gravitating towards silicone products. I later found out that silicone's one of the healthiest options, so that was nice n' re-assuring.

TL;DR: Use lube, measure what you're comfy with, and try to stick to body-safe materials like silicone.

Hello,
Before I got as many toys as I do now, I was in your shoes of not knowing what to do or get. If I was you I would start out with small toys because if you try to go with medium and large ones it will become uncomfortable and very uncomfortable. Lube can also help make the experience very pleasurable so it does not hurt and so that you can loosen up a bit.

Hey yeehawcutie (love the name btw),
My very first toy was a usb vibrator bullet that had a range of intensities and patterns. This made it so that I could discover what I was comfortable with and it was pretty inexpensive so that if it was a total flop I wouldn’t regret the loss of money. When it comes to new toys I always weigh the price, material, and appeal of the toy. If it’s pricey I’ll wait for a sale so that even if I pay a lot I can get some free toys as well. If I discover that it doesn’t have the safest material (I stick with toys that have a material rating above 7) then I know to just pass up on it. If I am dying of curiosity and it seems like an extremely appealing toy I’ll do some research. It’s also good to look for toys that are similar—if you have a toy in mind—because they might have better reviews. That being said, read the reviews! You can get a lot of pros and cons from them AND you can sometimes find out if a toy is beginner friendly. Overall I say jump right in, what’s there to be scared of? Don’t break the bank but explore and have fun because you won’t know until you try.

For a start, it would be great to define what exactly you like, what you wish to try. I definitely recommend commencing with beginner-friendly sizes and textures and give preference to healthy materials, for example, silicone.

I would recommend starting with bullets and glass dildos to figure out what you like. They're inexpensive but made well.
