I'm looking for a dildo that will be hard enough to grasp easily but also soft enough that it isn't completely hard like a rock. I can't figure out what material that would be made of. I know rubber/jelly items are a 2 on the material safety so I don't know if that's sort of a dangerous option or if that just means there's more care that goes into them but something rubbery and slightly squishy sounds like it would feel better. Lately all the toys I've been trying are just too firm.
I just chose those materials because they sounded like they'd be the material I'm looking for but if there are suggestions for something else, please share! Thanks.

Does anyone have personal experience with these toys or pros and cons about them?

I would stick to silicone. Yes it might be more firmer than Jelly but in the long run it far better. Jelly is dangerous for a few reasons the major being that it can leech chemicals that not only might result is a reaction (burn, irritation etc) but also be dangerous to ones health. Secondly Jelly can't be properly cleaned because the material is highly porous. This means that it can harbor bacteria that can lead to an infection. One last thing to consider is that Jelly toys break down, sometimes in as little as a few months means that they will need to be replaced frequently. On the other hand silicone is safe, can be cleaned/sterilized and if cared for properly will last a long time.

Have you tried anything from Vixen Creations? The few dildos that own from them seem to be on the softer side. I also think Tantus has a few soft and squishy ones same goes for Vamp Silicone.

Jelly also can't be properly cleaned because it can't be boiled.
Jelly doesn't just leech chemicals. It melts. That contributes to irritation in the short term and break down in the long run.

Silicone is the best for hygenic reasons and it lasts a lot longer. I know what you're saying about silicone being hard. They don't sell these on Ef but the New York Toy Collective has amazing silicone that's soft and squishy. Also the dual density silicone toys are great. Vixen and the Tantus O2 line.
if you do use jelly, when it gets oily looking, it's old and the materials are breaking down. Always cover it with a condom, jelly tends to burn your lady bits.
I hope this helps...

And jelly also has that nasty smell. I think I just shuddered recalling it.

Go with a dual density silicone. Like VixSkin, or the Tantus O2 line. They have a firm silicone core, covered by a softer silicone outer layer.

Silicone always.
There are different densities/harnesses of silicone. They're not usually advertised because most companies only use one density for their toys, but some companies like Bad Dragon or smaller personal toy makers like Damn Average on Etsy specify hardnesses and how they feel. Different silicone densities can be very gummy like a gummy candy, more like a regular erect penis, or very hard and unsquishable.

They make silicone in different firmnesses, you just have to look around. But definetly stick to silicone, jelly rubber gets chemicals and bacteria in places you want no chemicals and only healthy bacteria. Trust me, its worth the time to look around. Jelly rubber=baaaad

We've had the jelly before and would never go back. I like that they're more pliable usually, but the smell was terrible and it "leaked" oily fluid. It was gross. I will only buy silicone from now on.

any time you question the safety of a toys material, use a condom.

this really is a personal preference. if you enjoy the softness & squishy feel of a toy, by all means, use it. you can always use a condom if you question the safety of the material.
