What material is best for penetrative toys?

Contributor: Allison.Wilder Allison.Wilder
I've never owned a dildo, just vibrators (and my wonderful hitachi), but toys meant for clitoral stimulation are really not soft and hurt my insides. I want to buy a dildo as I think it'll be easier for penetration but I don't know what to go for. Any input would be great! Thanks in advance!

I do not own any silicone dildos, but the material generally earns them a perfect 10 on the safety scale, and I have read rave reviews about them!

If you want a soft dildo for your g-spot I would get something silicone, something Vixskin maybe. They make amazing toys and with dual density toys you get a super soft toy that is also really pleasurable.

If firmer toys don't work for you, go with silicone! It's a bit more expensive, but it's totally worth it. I personally recommend the silicone dildos from Tantus or Fun Factory.

Silicone, but I like glass too.

Try insertable toys made with Silicone. Read reviews on the toy that interests you and make sure it's made with 'squishy' silicone; some silicone toys are firmer than others.

I will always chose stainless, being that iron runs through my veins and all. For a first dil, I would recommend silicone though. Tons of different shapes and sizes, soft but yet firm enough to provide pressure when wanted and at the top of the safety scale.

For your first dildo, a soft, plushy silicone would probably suit you better, especially if you know hard clitoral toys hurt your insides. Ryuson suggested Fun Factory and Tantus and she has amazing reviews for dildos. Just make sure you get something that appeals to you as well. You probably already know that springing for a toy you are intrigued by will increase your enjoyment of it (generally speaking of course). Happy hunting and good luck

Thank you all so much for the replies. Can I ask why not jelly dildos? Seems nobody likes them as much.

I definitely prefer silicone. And a big downside of jelly is that it's so hard to clean. :/

Most, not all, Jelly toys contain Phthalates which can leach out of the material. The can be used safely with a condom though. They also tend to wear out pretty quick, better to spend a few more dollars for a better material.

Glass and silicone for anal play!

If you're being poked by the hard plastic of your vibes, I really suggest silicone over glass or metal. Obviously glass and metal are not soft and have the same potential to hurt your insides -- plus they're much heavier than the vibes you have now, most likely!

Silicone is great -- safe and soft and easy to clean.

Nobody likes jelly because it's completely porous -- impossible to sanitize. You can't get it clean, so bacteria and other ickies can grow on it. Silicone, glass, and metal can all be disinfected. Silicone, for example, can be boiled. Jelly needs to be used with a condom, which is a pain in the butt, and not as comfortable for many people (some people like them though!). Jelly also tends to be lower quality, silicone is much stronger.

I'd definitely go for silicone first for your dildo. Glass is great too but after you try out silicone

silicone is a good material to use. It is firm, but still has enough give to not cause any damage if used alittle too hard.
