Do small scratches really count in glass toys? (Follow-up, even more important thread about the same, replacement glass dildo!)

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
Ok, so I found a tiny scratch on the back of the head of the Icicles No. 21 glass dildo, so I sent it back for a replacement...

Received a new one, and it looks like I have found a teeeeeeeeeeeenytiny scratch on it again!!!

It is really tiny, of the size of a tiny piece of lint, and you can see it only if you have a veryvery close and critical look at the head, and though it really doesn't look big but as I inspect it very good it feels like it is a very small scratch what I very slightly feel as I move my nail over it!

It is really driving with me nuts already, and I really wonder if all the glass dildos happen to have such pretty much invisible scratches, and if it is really something serious! Because what if not every glass dildo is entirely perfect, and all of them come with such pretty much invisible scratches!

And: do you inspect yours most carefully and thoroughly too, looking for the smallest things too, even if they can be seen only if you do it in the strictest way?

Should I just send it back for a replacement again? WWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I think scratches are a big deal with glass toys. We started buying them early on when they were much more expensive than what you can buy today. We've never had a scratched toy shipped to us - but if we did, we would return it.

I suppose once glass toys went mainstream, the shear volume of production results in more defects making it to the market. My guess is most blems don't get returned, so it makes sense for them to send them out and just make trades for the few that get returned.

I just got one the other day I had to send back and it looks like my monthly assignment needs to be sent back too. I closely inspect all of my glass toys. This current one that I have I can hardly tell if it is a scratch or if it is an air bubble. I have to inspect it again and see. I think I am most likely sending it back for a replacement.

Stormy and Gary have that all covered so good luck to you on getting one that doesn't have a scratch. I only have 3 glass vibes as I just recently started using them, but I inspected them for any imperfections and will be doing so in the future.

As far as I am concerned it's like a windshield, any cracks, scratches, pits etc. can lead to bigger problems in the future. I totally get the frustration, but why take the chance? Follow Stormy and Gary's advice and be ruthless!

Also, I picked something else because I (unfortunately) do not own any glass toys yet, but that is what I would do!

I always inspect mine closely, and so far I have only found one with scratches. Luckily it was on the handle, not on the insertable part, so I didn't need to send it back. (A surface scratch is unlikely to spread, by my expectation.)

I also noticed one toy develop tiny microscratches on the base over time (like several months), but again they are only on the flat surface of the base, the same as are on the bottom of my teacup. I'm not worried about that either.

But if a scratch was on the insertable portion of the dildo, even if it seemed small, I wouldn't want to take the chance because the internal tissues of the vagina are *fragile*!

One other observation I've made is that glass that is shipped in styrofoam seems more likely to pick up these scratches. Judging by the scratched one I received, and the position of the scratches, it seemed like the toy had probably been manufactured just fine, and then was scratched in transit.

Small scratches can actually be polished out by the manufacturer. Don't try this at home though. Send it back.

I wouldn't send it back if it's just a slight imperfection/really small scratch on the surface.

That's how I think it goes too, I always wonder how come I received two of the same item scratched in a row, the same kind of teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenytin y scratch and both on the head!

It also made me start to wonder a lot if it was because the EdenFriends sales sell only the "not too good" pieces, though I have used it before too and I had no problems at all with any of those vibes!

It just frustrated me wondering how come that I received a bad one again, wondering how many of those dildos, or glass toys in general, are sent out defected already, and what in the world those folks do where these toys are made, don't they care to have a good enough look at them and just toss what doesn't come out good finally (like it is properly done in a factory where you can't ship scratched items out), or they just don't have the time or the money for enough employees to do that? ~rofl

But anyway, I hope that the next one will be good finally, I would even include a little request for an INSPECTED AND PERFECTLY SCRATCHLESS PIECE, but I don't wanna be so rudely pushy... ^^ ~sighs and blushes

Yep, I already wrote to Megan, oh and I REALLY don't want to sound rude or demanding because I am still just trembling in awe how much we all are SHOWERED with all these wonderful toys!!!
Am just very frustrated because, because, I don't know, probably because people have got used to it that things go smooth when it comes to purchasing something, had never received anything defective ever before this glass thing, and it is just all new and strange and so weird to me, especially that it has been happening in a row with two items already... ~blushes redder than hell

It isn't a review product btw, it is a purchased product!

I thought of that too, just wasn't sure, now am so glad to hear that indeed, such a thing can happen!

But then I wonder how come they use that foam instead of something else what wouldn't scratch it, I am sure that there are many other ways to ship it!
I just wonder why it is good for them that they send out such items, then they have to get them back and break them down (I guess), instead of using a material what would prevent the whole thing... ~sighs

Scratches are alarming. I'd probably send it back for another. If it comes with a scratch again, it may just be a design flaw or part of the glass shaping process.

The big issues with scratches or cracks is that it will focus stress and it can also be an indicator of stresses.

If you have a toy and the surface gets scratched gently (and it isn't a stressed point) then it isn't something to worry about too much. If wanted you can even buff it out. If you get a toy that comes scratched then you don't know what caused the scratch or how the toy will react.
