#AskEden - Brand-new Amethyst Scratched

Contributor: November November
I just received my Amethyst and I noticed what looks to be some scratches on the surface. Has anyone else noticed this? Should I write a support ticket?

I'm not sure if it affects the safety of the item or not. I noticed what appears to be scuff marks on the surface as well as one scratch the size of a hair. I'm wondering if these are scuff marks and scratches or if they are just harmless imperfections in the glass itself that only affect the appearance. I don't want to send it back unless I know it's not safe. I was wondering if anyone on the forums knows anything about this.

That sounds like you need to send it back. If you can't wash it off, send it back. Even tiny scuffs can turn into cracks.

Hi Beck, thanks for giving me some quick feedback. Well, after doing a little research here on EF, I decided that I do need to send it back. I tried washing it like you suggested, but no dice, these scuff marks and scratches won't wash off. It's just so disappointing.

Hopefully, the next one will be in better condition and this is just a fluke!

Eden's great about taking care of stuff, so I'd send it back.

Small scratches may feel smooth to a finger or on skin but there is the possibility for it to cause micro abrasions to delicate tissue. Always better to play it safe and return it, plus it may lead to crack or breakage.

Sorry to hear this about your Amethyst. Mine was perfect on the surface and it was shipped to the other side of the world. I'd send it back also.

Yeah the cracks would be hard to clean so a safety issue there. Hope your next one is perfect!

UPDATE:

Well, I got my new one and it was scuffed and cracked as well. I am really disappointed.

I believe the scuffs and the crack were there before it was even shipped to me, because it was wrapped in bubble wrap and encased in a storage bag. EF did an excellent job packing the box with lots of paper, so it was in there real tight.

I've bought glass toys from EF before and have never had this problem.

I've never ordered a toy from SSA before, so perhaps this item got damaged while in their warehouse before they put it in the bubble wrap and storage bag. I don't know if that's what happened, it's just a guess.

The good news is that I spoke to an EF customer service rep and made arrangements to return it for a refund. Megan was very helpful and she's already e-mailed me an EF gift card for my refund!

EF customer service is excellent, I love them!
