Couldn't agree more, AmethystQueen! This is such a personal activity so what works for a person may work for another.
Personally, I wouldn't suggest using a large-sized butt plug (as in 2-2.5" or more diameter) for extended wearing day in, day out. But then again, that's just me. Experiment with what works best for yourself. I find that a long-term daily wear is easy with a medium size plug made out of flexible material (silicone in my case). I love it! It's pleasurable because it's a naughty secret in addition to the gentle prostate massage throughout the day, and it also serves as a reminder of my submission to my Mistress.
Small sized plugs aren't too great for wearing out in public. The very thin "bulge" on these standard sizes are too small to keep itself in place securely over long periods of time. One good sneeze/cough, and you may accidentally find your plug laying on the floor...
My top advice for frequent plug wear:
-Choose size in the middle range
-Pick a plug made of flexible material (avoid glass, etc)
-Keep it well-lubricated!
-Use a tight pair of briefs, pants, or a harness to keep it in
-Listen to your body; go as slow as needed. Pain means something's wrong
-And lastly... don't stress too much, enjoy it!
