Butt plug smell solution

Contributor: Rawhide Rawhide
Recently I've been disappointed by silicone as a material for anal play. After a couple uses and thorough cleaning the plug would still retain a distinct butt smell. I tried rubbing alcohol, bleach, boiling... still smelly

I ended up searching the internet and found a solution recommended for getting smells out of silicone cookware. I made a paste out of water and baking soda, spead it on the plug, and let it sit and dry for several hours. When I washed it off, the smell was significantly reduced. Not gone, but good progress. After two more rounds, it was totally gone.

Is this an inconvenient pain in the ass? Yes. Am I reconsidering silicone as a good material for anal play? Definitely. But can I get smells out of my silicone plug? Finally, yes.

Neat!

I don't really find myself needing to do de-scenting sessions with my anal toys too often, but I'm a strong believer in salt and vinegar for getting rid of smells. It woks on my hands after chopping onions (make a paste of salt and vinegar and rub it a bit, then wash it off) so I can't think of much it wouldn't work on.

Always good to find a solution that works.

Generally my silicone anal toys lose their smell if I just let them air out for a day. Not really convenient in terms of storage, but simple enough.

I use vinegar for household cleaning, it works great! But I've never thought of using it for sex toys... do they smell like vinegar afterwards?

That sounds like a good idea...maybe vinegar too, though lemon has a fresher smell

I find this to be true also. I've also used Dawn dish washing liquid in the past with some success but usually just use a clear, liquid antibacterial soap and really hot water.

Thanks for the info, I have just recently encountered this with a new plug. I haven't noticed it with a toy from a different manufacturer and I wonder what the difference in the silicone is. Have you noticed this in all toys or just some brands?

I have a variety of toys. Some hold the odor for a day or so, some don't. The Tantus Cisco I own holds zero odor. Too bad their toys aren't more affordable.
