Base on a plug

Contributor: ToyTimeTim ToyTimeTim
I just received my first plug for review. This one link. I am a little worried that the base is to small. The Diameter at the widest point is 1 1/2" the neck is 3/4" and the base is 1 1/4"

Does the base seem big enough. I really want to try this plug out but I DO NOT want to lose it.

I personally would not be comfortable with that on me or my partner. It just doesn't look like enough and especially with his body, it tends to pull things in so we use much larger bases. It really is a matter of what YOU'RE comfortable with and based on your post, I don't think you'd be comfortable using it. Even if it were to stay where it should, are you really going to enjoy yourself while you're worrying about it?

Thank you for your post. I am not to awful worried about it, just looks like the base is the same as others. Some of the plugs do not have a base measurement so I was asking to see if this is normal or not.

I think to be safe I will put a leather "tail" on it just in case.

That would be a good safety practice until you've verified whether or not the base is stable.

There are a number of things that affect the "holding power" of a plug base, including materials, size (as you've brought up), and geometry. In general, a harder material doesn't need as big of a base as a softer material (think glass vs. silicone), because the glass base won't bend to slip in, whereas the silicone base could. Geometry also affects the holding power - a more rapid flare holds better than a gradual widening.

Once you have the plug you can test it out - insert the plug and press on the base. A base that holds will require a noticeable amount of pressure before it starts to slip inside. If the toy starts to slip (the base goes almost all the way into the anus) with little pressure than you need to be careful, as it can easily be tapped during play.

Keep in mind during testing that the anus is a bit over 1/2" in depth before you get to the rectum and your fingers are right on the base when you push, so if you do it right you can snag the plug before things get difficult. You'll know if a base will slip inside easily right before the widest part enters the outside of the anus, and if you switch to "pushing out" as you grab the base it doesn't go inside.

Thank you ScottA. The geometry thing make a lot of sense. This is the first glass toy I have had. So I thought I would ask.

I can be pretty handy with leather so I made a leather "tail" for it. This added to the base dimension and gives it a more of a rapid flare.

For those that are curious link

You always have such great insight in the anal area. Thanks again.
