I don't know how to feel about the idea of writing reviews on items that have been discontinued. A large part of me thinks that since Eden is a business and we write reviews for the customers discontinued item reviews are pointless. I know people still write them and for those that I read because I like the reviewers work its fine. But I realize reviews are not just for those that take part in the community. I wanted to know what everyone else thought about writing a review on an item that has been discontinued. Ya or Nay?
Writing Reviews On Discontinued Items

Sometimes an item that has been discontinued due to lack of response only needs a few reviews to revive interest. It has always been assumed here that since people can actually find these items elsewhere providing a review is useful regardless of whether Eden continues to carry the item. Sometimes it can be an exercise in futility if the product has been discontinued by the manufacturer...but still if there is interest it might get revived or upgraded in terms of materials.

What Airen said. A spark of interest just might bring a discontinued product back.

I once wrote review on something that was discontinued shortly after.

A LOT of new products will say "Discontinued" on the Product page. Most of the DRs I've written for brand new products say "Discontinued" when it is first live, and then changed when Eden gets the product in stock.

So, the Product Page saying "Discontinued" doesn't always mean the product will not be available.

I hope that is the case! I have seen a few things that are discontinued I would love to see brought back.. even more awesome if they come back upgraded.

I wrote a review and then did a video for the Lovers Pillow, a sexual postion pillow by Sportsheets. In a few days, I noticed the item was D/C. Needless to say, I was horified that I wasted EF's $ to do a video for an item that was no longer going to be sold.
All things considered, I feel that EF is extreamly generouse with the perks and programs they offer. Therefore, I feel I have an obligation to do the best I can to help them sell their items with my reviews and videos.

I've written reviews on 2 discontinued items and I think it's a good idea in case anyone is thinking of buying them at another shop.
If the item was terrible, then we're saving them some money, they can then take that money and spend it on other products available at Eden.
That's just what i think though.

ya, I think it's fine...who knows? maybe they will bring it back

Oh I never thought of it that way! In the case of products one really thinks of as quality this would be a good thing. Thank you for mentioning this. I thought once something was discontinued it wasn't likely to ever come back.

I feel the same Lori. I have items that have been discontinued that I would like to do reviews on but don't feel like that would be the right thing to do. I have reviewed items that are now discontinued that I would like to do videos on but, like you, I feel like it would be taking advantage of an already great program .

Thank you for posting this, I've wondered about this myself.

It is difficult to tell if the item is discontinued or new and not stocked sometimes. I do reviews on all products I order from EF.

I agree with this (about hard to tell). Sometimes if a lingerie piece is out of stock in every size, it will say discontinued, but a week later it's restocked and available again.

I think a great idea is to take these items and write reviews that you post on your own blog- then you provide links to your reviews on Eden. Everybody wins because you get people to see your blog ( which can be an affiliate for Eden) and you steer people back or newcomers towards your other reviews on Eden!
06/07/2012
I write reviews on everything I order so I would be upset if the product was discontinued and I couldn't write my review.
06/17/2012
I have done a review on I believe ONE discontinued item, the item was discontinued literally right after I placed my order guess I was lucky to get the last one maybe I have the Gold Lace I got during the 10yr Anniversary Promotions it is now discontinued am I going to do a review for it?! The answer would be "YES" I sure am cause it very well could come back or someone could be looking for it an go somewhere else to get it since EF doesn't carry it. Either way I see my information as reaching out to others who may want the product, if my review can help them either not want the product anymore or make them want it more then my job was done well.
08/19/2012
I have done reviews on items that weren't in stock and then became discontinued, but I think it's good, because people can see the reviews and if the product is ever restocked, you've got a good base to judge it on.
08/20/2012
I think they still offer information about the toy world for others who are new to it
09/03/2012
I'd still write them and prefer them still written. As stated, it's a site based off reviews for the products to help decisions. Also, we never know if Eden would happen to want to bring that item back in the future.
Unless you started the review before it was discontinued, it doesn't let you review anyways. So I see no problem with reviews on discontinued items.

I have found that EF brings back discontinued items. I just did a review for the Passion Tango which EF has just brought back. I hope people get interested in it cuz it really is a great toy.

Perhaps Eden will get it or something like it again.

It's fine as long as it used to be sold here.
10/13/2012
I have wondered about this myself as I have many Liberator products and never wrote reviews on them. I don't think they are coming back. I could be wrong?
10/14/2012
Yeah, what if they decide to bring it back because of your reviews? I don't see what the problem is...

Odd. I'm one of the only people who thinks it's pointless for reviews for things no longer sold.
