Question on reviewing an item...

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
I haven't encountered this situation yet but want to be prepared (because I know I will) for when I am in this situation. If you order a product, and that product comes in two sizes, but you ordered the smaller size the first time (lets use my bubble bath as an example) just to try it out first, and you review it, would you still review it again if you ordered the larger size the second time? Even if it's the same product itself?

Which also leads me to, what if you order a product in a different color, lets use for example beads. If your first order was purple but then you order them again, in red, do you review?

I am only asking because I know that Eden uses a points system, and you are given points for reviewing, so I'm not sure what is ethical in this situation. I would imagine it wouldn't be right to review a product if you just keep ordering the same color, size, etc., but I wasn't sure about what to do when it includes variables to the product.

Thanks for your answers!

The EF system doesn't actually let you review the same product even if it is a different colour. If the product is listed as one but has variations in sizes, colours and flavours or scents (flavours and scents I'm not 100% sure about) as choices on the same product page, it comes up as viewed on all the variations. Well in my experience anyway. I reviewed the black Ryder plug and all the other colours say reviewed.

On the point of points LOL. I myself would consider that a type of point farming. I don't think it's the ethical thing to do even it you could.

I've seen people do follow ups of the new size.

There are some things, mostly with lingerie I think, where each different color is all on the same product page, but shows up as available to do a review on each one. I'm not sure how I feel on that. For something where you bought a smaller bottle of something to try it then a bigger bottle, no, I wouldn't review them both even if I could. Saying you got more and still love it in a follow up is more than acceptable. With the lingerie stuff though, it depends. I used to think it was just a way to get extra reviews by ending up with multiple things of the same colors, until I ended up with a few different pairs of stockings and realized they were actually the same thing just different colors after I had written the review. At this point I think I'd only consider that abuse if somebody were to very quickly write a review on every single color of a product.

Personally I wouldn't write a second review on the same product. For me it's like ... been there, done that. I have already given readers my opinion.

i don't understand why someone would need to review another item if the only thing that changed was the color; that makes no sense since it is the same product, except in a different color.

i kind of understand size, but if that's the only differing factor, i don't see why it would be completely necessary

That is actually a good question. There are times when the site will allow you to re-review, like Sam said above in her post. Keep in mind, Eden's has had some huge point farmers and in order to be taken seriously and not get flagged, you need to remember that there are plenty of other items for review. Rather then redoing your reviews, if you find a new use or flaw in a previously reviewed item, add it to the forum under that category.

That's something I would probably include in my follow-up review, especially if you liked a different size better.

Sam's suggestion of updating the information via a follow-up review is probably the best thing to do if the original review has already been published and you can no longer edit it. I don't think anyone would take you any less seriously if you were to write a review for each color, but I do suggest that if that's something you're interested in doing---comparitive reviews, to do so all at once with each color. Many people have done this with the different flogger collections available in multiple colors as well as with dildos that come in a variety of colors. I find those reviews to be exceptionally helpful when I can't make up my mind which one I want more.

I wouldn't review something if I didn't have something new to add, and if I did, I'd feel that was what the followup review was for.

I think it's taking advantage of the system if someone reviews a product in one size and reviews the same product in a different size (like lube).

I've never run across this, but I think it depends if the item numbers are different if the person can do two reviews.

If it's the same product and a different color, and the system lets you do it, it's the same thing to me.

This may not be as clear as I wanted it to be: I mean compare all of the different colors in the same review, not write separate reviews for each color.

Thanks for all of your answers I figured as much, because to me it seemed like some sort of abuse, I just wasn't sure if this has been done in the past often and if so how is it done fairly. I agree that in most cases just write in the follow-up review about any orders of the same product in different sizes, colors, etc., that you've made since the initial review. Just checking

Honestly as linga said I dont think you can review the same item because it wont allow you to due to the item number. However you can always do a follow up to the first review and add the info in and EF will give you points for that.

Since I don't do any product reviews on this site, or any other site, but on my blog I will often get something twice to review but in different colors or fragrences. I'm one of those people who just have to know which is better even if it is pretty much the same thing. I like compairing things because sometime I get tied up with which color / scent to order with certain things so I figure its nice to help someone else that might be like me out in that situtaion. And since I don't get points or anything for it I don't think its wrong. But even if I did I still don't think it would be wrong, its helpful.

I think when it comes to different scents for something, more than one review should be allowed anyway, because the ingredients are going to be different, meaning you could have an entirely different reaction/experience/et c., so I agree on that one. Colors, not too sure, depends on the item, I think. If it allows for more than one review and the item's color changes aspects of the item itself (such as with lingerie, some being more appropriate in different settings) then maybe its okay.

In my case, I'd ordered a bubble bath, and I wanted to get the larger size, so that's where this thought came from. I think if it came in more than one scent or had different features (one was meant to be relaxing, the other stimulating or something like that) then maybe that would be when more than one review was appropriate?

I think I would have to agree with you, unless it's lingerie. I haven't made purchases on that yet from this site, but I find that when it comes to clothing, you can own the same item in two colors and it can change aspects of the item. I own a nice piece in a light color and one in a darker color. I can only wear the lighter color in the bedroom but often wear the darker colored corset with jeans, out in public, so I use them differently, so that was another reason I was curious, is if an aspect of an item changes due to color (or scent in some cases) then perhaps it is appropriate if the item numbers are different?

I've noticed some items like candles come in more than one scent, and if you order one and like it, another and don't, and you've already done a follow-up on candle #1, then should the item numbers be different and you had an entirely different experience with candle #2, then would it be appropriate?

I ask, because I have big plans for testing out many products on this site Sensual items, being my favorite! And that means many colors, scents, etc!

Hah, if I were to see someone writing a review on every single color I would quickly point the "abuse" finger!!!

I was thinking, though, sometimes colors can change the way you use products, lingerie being the only example I can think of, and then got to thinking about scents! A product with a variety of scents can cause different experiences

Figured that's why this post would be a good idea, as I'm experimenting more with this site (not to mention the toys!!!) I'm finding that new questions come up!
