Question: are we allowed to link to other sex shop sites on our contr. pages?

Contributor: Sangsara Sangsara
so everydayI think up another website to add to my links on my eden profile page. one category is 'stores' and I thought that meant other places to shop on the web. now I'm embarrassed because i have pinkcherry, shevibe and my local sex shop on that list. I just read the expectations of conduct (again) and it looks like its saying that this will get us in trouble. have I misunderstood? are we supposed to be providing links to stores that sell the kind of stuff (not just certain lines) that eden doesn't carry? or are they supposed to be links to personal stores other contributors have for affiliate sales?
is it time to clear my links before I get reprimanded?

I don't believe competitor sites are allowed on your page. I know I had one or two in my favorite stores or websites at one point, and got a message about them having been removed.

(Also, it isn't a reprimanding really. I was just told that they had removed the links from my profile. Nobody yelled at me )

I would take them down, yes. While those websites are stores, they are direct competitors with Eden. It's like going to Coca-Cola and representing Pepsi, know what I mean? I can understand why Eden wouldn't want members linking to direct competition.

As for your question about store links, an example would be a website that I have listed as a favourite, "Beyond The Rack". It's an online brand new discount club. This example is one of the many stores that would be suitable to list. I would just suggest when adding favourite stores, ask yourself, "is this direct competition to Eden?" and if it is, you probably should not be linking to it. If the website could be considered a non-direct competitor (for example, Ebay), than I think it's okay. Ebay's main sale item is not sex toys or lingerie, so it's not like you're redirecting potential customers to another competitor.

Those are just my personal thoughts though. If you've got any questions, send me a message : )

What about sites that carry, say, just BDSM products of a certain brand or type that is not carried here?

Competitor links are not allowed anywhere on the site (walls, reviews, comments, or threads). This includes the Eden Should Carry threads, a picture of the item will do.

Competitors are considered to be retailers - not manufacturers - of adult products. This includes DVDs, Books, BDSM gear, lingerie, and bath and body products. That pretty much knocks out about 98% of the sites available on the internet for shopping.

The only exception here is if the BDSM items are custom made and the site does not offer additional items like those mentioned above.

Our recommendation to contributors is to link to sites of interest that are blogs, humor sites, new sites...etc. If there's something you want to share with someone specifically, feel free to do so privately or off site.

Great answer sktb0007! Even though ebay's main catalog is not primarily adult products, links are allowed so long as the item cannot be found on Eden. Say you found an awesome gaming package or set of video games and want to share that, that's fine. Any links to toys, DVDs, bath and body, etc. would not be allowed and would be removed when discovered.
