I am just wondering what the meaning of Advanced Reviewer is? I ask because I have seen some very un-advanced reviewers have this title. I am not a great reviewer myself but I am much better than some I have seen with this title.

Advanced simply means you can request assignments, however please reserve your judgment -- everyone had to start somewhere. Without the mentor program in place, the only way to become advanced is to be voted in by the community.

I agree! it's kind of strange to see someone getting free items, and then writing shoddy reviews. Kind of defeats the purpose of it! But, as Stormy said, everyone starts somewhere. Perhaps there will be a moderation or more thorough critiques of reviews in the future

Well...here's where it falls into the Community's lap. You know that handy little wizard that lets you vote on a review? If you vote honestly on the review, it affects the user's rank. Rank determines whether or not that person will be able to request higher priced toys in the future.

aren't the votes to be based on the quality or the reviews?

The votes are based on the quality of reviews...so if the review is missing information or doesn't make any sense, you would vote "not useful" or "somewhat useful"...which is then registered toward their rank.

I try to vote honestly, but, to be honest, sometimes I feel bad. I'm also pretty harsh, so I would be handing out a lot of "not usefuls" instead of "somewhat usefuls" if I was actually voting the way that I wanted to. I would hate for people to get mad at me for down-voting.

Then I suppose not voting at all would be the better alternative; not voting honestly negates the purpose of voting.

I wanted to add to Stormy's point and say that it's NOT down-voting when you are honestly voting that way. In my opinion, down-voting was coined to refer to people purposefully voting lower than is justified in an attempt to lower someone's rank, or retaliate, something like that. I understand though that there is a concern about retaliation, but I always tell new people that if you give someone a higher score than they deserve, then you are practically giving them free assignments for which they will write poor reviews and since that incenses most people...

Anyway, as long as you can justify the vote, there is no problem. Now, if you suspect you are being retaliated against, there is recourse -- just mention it to Stormy and she will check it out. Granted, it would have to be obvious to bust someone, however, a warning could also go a long way towards stopping it. Finally, I know a lot of people just refrain from voting rather than be seen as giving low ratings and since that doesn't help (or hurt) the reviewer's rank, I think it's a better option.

I should probably clarify. I didn't mean that I was voting "useful" on reviews that shouldn't be, even less so "extremely useful". However, when I read a review, I want to feel like I've basically held the toy, and there are only a couple reviewers here that give me that effect. If I don't feel comfortable voting something, I don't rate it, but I do rate slightly kinder than I would. I know my standards are too incredibly high, though.
