It would not matter what the item is to me at all. It could be one I absolutely love and someone else is entitled to not love it. We all like different things and we all have different anatomies, so I would rate the review based on the review, not anything else.
How would you rate a review from another contributor on a product that you also wrote for but it had a opposite overall rating?
12/15/2011
It's just as useful! Having different opinions and differnt points of view gives a more well rounded picture of the product.
12/15/2011
agree
01/27/2012
I rate by the quality of the review not my personal opinion of the product. We shouldn't up or down grade a review because we think the product rocks or sucks, but rather vote according to the particular review and if it gave you all the useful information that you generally look for in a review.

First and Foremost....Honestly.
Most times, I never read other reviews or testimonials when I am attempting to create one of my own.
When people seek to read experienced reviews from individuals which are based on a certain product...they most times want to get an honest review, not one that is influenced or chimed down because of what some other fucker said about it when they may have had a great product, but a lousy day and was already in a negative mind-set.
Say this lady got this brand new strap-on to use on her girlfriend. Things were great....but, for some reason before she could get into the area to submit her review...her girlfriend flips out and breaks up with her. The customer, is all strung out, and just throws a review out like, "I wasted my money..." But the truth may be that her girlfriend broke up with her because she spent over $200 on this fancy-nancy strap-on, when it works, performs in every aspect as well as the $35 that her girlfriend bought her for her anniversary 2 years ago.
So, yeah, just give it out honest...and before you read what others have written before you.

I actually enjoy reading a review on a product I have that is the opposite of my rating, whether positive or negative. It helps give me insight on maybe something I am doing wrong, or new ways to use the product to furthermore enjoy it.
I have a lot of luck with most of the products I have ordered from EF so far, there was one that received so much high praise however my review rated it only 3 stars. So I read all the 5 star reviews to find out why and what people liked about it so much that I didn't. It's very helpful.

It's not right to negatively rate someone's review just because their opinion doesn't match yours. If the review was still well-written, q negative vote is unfair to the writer.
01/27/2012
I have trouble believing them sometimes if it's really opposite of what I said, but as long as what they say is factual and not just overly flattering to the product or overly insulting, I'd rate it useful.
03/12/2012
Depends totally on whether or not I think the review would be helpful to someone new to the product. My personal opinion on the product is just that and everyone is entitled to their own. If the review would be helpful, I'll rate it high, if not, I'll rate it lower.

I'd read the review to see if they had valid points for rating that way. If they did, it can still be useful. Not everyone likes the same things!

I was wondering how you would vote on a well written review that had the opposite reaction to a product that you did?

If it's a quality review that just differs in the overall opinion, I'd rate it just as useful.

I voted coochy cream a 1. It made me break out, it irritated my skin, gave me a rash, and was awful. For me, that's not a 5 star product. If you don't have sensitive skin, it might work just fine for you. But I'm rating it from my experience, and my review is only based on my experience. I also make sure to let people know in my reviews on products like this, that I have allergies and if they don't they'll probably be fine. I don't think it makes my opinion any less useful because it makes me break out, than it does the 42 other people who rated it 5 stars.

We are all individuals, we all have different likes and dislikes. I watch for consistancy when I read a review, if several reviews say the same thing about a like or dislike. I take that into consideration. I love to read different reviews about one item. Sometimes when I have decided on looks alone, they help me to change my mind.
04/26/2012
I am super critical so I often read reviews of products I've owned and have a hard time finding the review to be EU if the author doesn't even touch on what I would consider glaring errors. If I feel it would help the reviewer, I usually stick to a useful vote but I sometimes try not to rate these things.
04/26/2012
it is their opinion so it depends on the review itself all reviews have potential to be useful or completely useless
05/23/2012
I'm rating the review, not the toy. so If it was descriptive and well written, then I would give it a good rating.

Even if a review is contradictory it can be just as useful. Everyone has different tastes in toys and movies. So if someone dislikes the product it is more important why they dislike it than that they dislike it, and the same thing is true about people who like a product.

Everyone has different likes and dislikes so everyone will experience the item differently. Rating isn't about rating if someone liked it as much as you do. The usefullyness is based of HOW it's writing and their experiences of why they did and did not like it. Different people have different senses levels so they are going to differ. That's why when you read a view you take it as a whole, not if you agree it felt that way.
07/23/2012
i dont think its fair voting down others on account of their views, when the votes should only count toward the clarity of the review.
07/25/2012
When someone justifies their rating and provides valid points, I always think that is useful information to have.
07/25/2012
I rate reviews based on how informative and helpful they are. If someone had a totally different experience than me, that's fine. We're all different after all, and we are into different things, have different experiences, and different opinions.
11/30/2012
Just as useful

I would find it useful and helpful, however I would still feel the same about it, even if someone else does have a different opinion or view about it, something that you may like someone else may not and vice versa, everyone is entitled to their own view and opinion of things.

I try to write on how I enjoyed the product and on how someone else might enjoy or might not enjoy.

I agree about finding contrary reviews useful. As others have said, opinions about sex toys are highly subjective.

Usually I read reviews when I'm trying to decide what to buy, or whether or not to buy a specific product. To know whether someone's opinion on a product is likely to match the experience I'd have, I need to know a little bit about the reviewer.
For example, if a reviewer loves a toy, but says she's a size queen and loves that it's a huge toy, that's useful. Size queens would know they are likely to like the toy's size and others know they won't like it.
So when I read reviews after the fact, I rate them based on the quality of the review, not the subjective opinion.

I think it's great to see what other people do and don't like. Not everyone has the same views and likes on things, so if It's something I hated it's nice to see what other people favored about it. Or Maybe if it's something I loved and someone disliked it it's nice to see if maybe they saw something I didn't with the product. Regardless if it's a well done review it receives a good rating from me.

If you felt like the review was informative and had effort put into it, it's extremely useful. Everyone takes different things away from a product, that's why it's best to always read more than just one before purchasing.
