If you could monitor your rank more closely,,,?

Contributor: mistressg mistressg
I'm wondering if you could monitor your rank more closely, is that something you would be interested in?

I bring this up because I finally managed to get my rank up to 6.5 and noticed this morning it was back down to 6.4, I was curious what happened.

If you could check on a page and see something like:
+ Review posted
+ Received comments and good feedback on a review
- Received negative feedback on a review
etc. etc.

Do you think that would be a cool feature?

Your rank is relative to all other contributors so it's not unusual for it to fluctuate 0.1 when you're right on the border.

There are so many factors that affect rank I don't think this would be possible. Also, while it's great to reach certain milestones with rank and have new opportunities (like mentoring) open up, I don't think rank is that important... it's just a number.

A page like that might be convenient, but is not necessary. I am not very worried about the ranking number. If you are, just keep it going up by being as active as possible on the site.

I can see the appeal to something like that but I would never use it. Much like points, I don't pay much attention too it until I am going to place and order or request an assignment.

Rank has so many variables I am not sure how accurate it would be on a day to day basis. I guess it could give you rough idea though.

I wouldn't want to be able to monitor it. I like being surprised every once in a while.

I don't know, you can already see where you are relative to others of the same rank (and thus predict how likely you are to go up/down) and it REALLY depends on how active the rest of the community is. I think it would be too big a hassle for not many people to care.

I'd like to know what is taking my rank up or down, personally.

This. My rating has done this many times. It'd be a hard system to put in place since it's not just your activity that can determine your ranking.

Also, rank really isn't that important like Petite Valentine has mentioned. I mean, only for those milestone rank numbers like 6 for mentoring, etc. For myself personally, I wouldn't really need a break down.

I would like to see something like this, I only care about rank as like others have said there are things I would like to do on this site that I cannot because of my rank.

However I see people that are well above my rank but it appears as though they have done less then me. It will show they did far less reviews then I did, made less posts then I did and participated in less discussions then I did, so I would like the ability to see a comparison of what they did to get so much higher then me by doing less (or so it looks on the stats)

But it wouldn't be a priority, I just need to work my butt off more

It might but then I might develop OCD monitoring it.

I think it would be impossible to implement this realistically, our rank is effected so much by what everyone else does. For example, my rank is 7.1 right now. However, next month when two of my reviews 'fall off' (since only the reviews from the past 365 days count towards your rank) it might take a hit and fall to 6.9. However, maybe a bunch of other people came in with me, so theirs'll fall off, too, so mine'll rise to 7.0. It's impossible to monitor your rank when it's based on everyone elses, I think.

Same, the ability to do this for everyone who is a contributor seems like it would be difficult especially with the way things fluctuate. Even more so it wouldn't matter neccessarily what you did or did not do but what others are doing. So really your theory would require that we have access to the activity of everyone else and why there rank is where it's at in order to properly assess our own.

I would like that only for the reason that it could possibly help people improve, like for negative feedback on a review. Other than that, I don't think it matters too much.

I like the ranking system and if this option were available, I would probably keep a close eye on it! I'm super competitive that way and I love having a milestone to work towards. I finally hit a rank of 7 recently and I hope to start working my way up to an 8, bit by bit haha!

I really want to up my ranking so that I can review more items. It's hard finding anything I want to try out to review at the ranking I am now. When I do find something, it's usually already got items out waiting for reviews to post. *sigh*

I see how this specifically may be hard to implement, but I would like to see a way to more closely understand your rank and how to improve it. I feel like I get stuck at a rank for a while and then it will increase by .2 very quickly. Then I'll plateau again even if I am being more active than I was before.

What you are asking for wouldn't help The system isn't based on your individual performance it's based on the activity of the community as a whole. Honestly it's not something you have done or failed to do. I fluctuate .1% every few days!

The only way to really boost your rank is post reviews and get involved on site.

It sounds like a cool idea, but like others have said there's so much that goes into the rankings that it probably wouldn't be as cut and dry as we'd like it to be. That being said I'm constantly checking my rank and working to make it higher as well.
