In the beginning it takes awhile to go up, especially since there are so many people at the same level as you. Just keep writing reviews, make them as useful as possible. Maybe taking a mentor class with myself or another contributor could help you figure out how to make your reviews more useful.

You need to also followup on your reviews and be social by commenting and voting on others reviews. There is a break down of what makes up your score in the review program section.

Taking a mentor class could help immensely if you are looking for real in depth help, I doubt anyone who has signed up to mentor would turn you away! As LaUr3n advised getting involved will help as well.
Good luck and keep going!

You go to your account and over on the left side there's your dashboard. A little farther down you can click on the mentor program and sign up as a student, and from there there's a link that lets you choose from available mentors.

Here's a link that should work for you and take you right there

I've been wondering the same thing, because there are members in the community who have less reviews than I do, and less activity in the community...but they still have a higher rank. The majority of my reviews have been rated extremely useful, or useful, so I don't know what's wrong
When I first joined, I went from 0-5.6 overnight, then I kept posting as usual and being active and I went down to a 4.5 and I've been hovering at a 5.5 for the last week and a half or so.

I noticed the same thing when I first joined--the first couple of "ranking points" are gained the quickest. After 5.0, it's an uphill battle to get to 6, then 7, etc. I'd recommend not stressing about your rank too much and just concentrate on writing fun, informational reviews and enjoying the community here

I totally agree. I gave up on worrying about our ranking almost a year ago, and instead turned to keeping my mind on the fun of trying something new and writing something useful.
Alan never cared about rank, but I did and it really wasn't as much fun for me back when my mind made it a competition.

I've noticed the increments have become harder to achieve. I'd like to get a 6.0 so I can apply for the video review program eventually. Just gotta keep trucking and putting out useful reviews!

Mine fluctuates between a few points difference. I notice if I get stuck on a review and am MIA for a short while it will drop. I was at 5.5 before and I got stuck on those darn Bound by Diamond sets and took me weeks to get them done... I came back after moving to find my rating down to a 4.5 yeouch!

I'm definitely noticing the more I do for reviews the faster it grows. This last review I did I got 10 extremely useful votes (Most I've ever gotten, I'm very proud) and my ranking went from 5.3 to 5.5. So, its definitely possible to get it up there just keep working at it, work hard and you'll get there

I had the same problem for a while, but once I realized that there was no point in competing, the whole thing just became a whole lot more fun for me

I don't worry about points, but i do want to go up. I forget it's about points sometime though. I've just been trying to dig deeper into the site and find all the places i hadn't seen before. It's a pretty well thought out site so i enjoy spending time on it. If i spent an hour a day on the site making my voice heard in a helpful way i'm sure my ratings would go up in no time. I just don't have that kind of time to devote unfortunately.
The video review program is TOTALLY what i'm working towards though. It sounds awesome.

That doesn't help as much as you'd think. The reviews are the big part of your rating.

I used to be worried about my rating, too, then I realized it didn't matter all that much. I do hope I stay above 6.5, though.
