I didn't read up on it or anything, but I'm fairly certain that your rating is based on an average score of all your reviews combined. so if you get a couple less than stellar votes on a review, your rating could drop. Or if you write a review that is of a lesser caliber than your previous that could also cause your rating to drop.

I noticed a lot of up-and-down in the beginning; having less reviews seems to make every vote count more. Just continue writing reviews and working on improving them, and your rank should go back up.

This is true (what the other 2 comments above say) and also participation counts towards your rank!

And not to mention that your activity is also compared to the activity of everybody else on the site. So if somebody else is super active it could affect your rank as well. I wrote out a good answer here where I saw somebody else having a similar issue.

It's not just lower ranking reviewers or new reviewers. When I first hit 7, I was bouncing between 7 and 6.9 for weeks, until it stabilized when I wrote a few more reviews.
It DOES depend on everyone else on the site, like Sam said. So, if a lot of people are really active and you're having some down time you may drop a bit. Even the highest reviewers, in the 9+ strata have their ratings move around due to activity, review frequency, others' activities, votes and comments as well as other conditions.

So true, I had to write five reviews to go from 7.9 to 8, so much factors into the rank.

shySEXXaddict, I find that just ignoring your rank makes life much easier. Before you know it you'll look and it will be up.

I wasn't sure when I came in here but I'm glad I did. Some good information in here.
I'll keep all this in mind.

Yep, and also your ranking and reviews are compared to the averages of top reviewers. So keep writing reviews and getting stars on them : )

agree

I've had mine bounce around by a decimal or two, but never more than that without me doing something. Weird

So, in order to get any ranking, you have to write some reviews? I stumbled upon the Eden Tasks today, and was confused when it started talking about ranks.
01/30/2012
I'm glad I found this! My ranking just went down by 0.1 points - not a biggie, but I've been proud of slowly climbing the ladder. I bet it was the last toy I reviewed . . . it was so lackluster I didn't feel motivated to put much effort into it.
04/03/2012
Dont feel bad. I have been stuck at a 5 for over a year.
05/13/2012
mine went down the other day...the day after i was so excited it went up
05/24/2012
Good to know, as someone just starting to review items, (and a bit of a perfectionist) I probably would freak out if something like this occurred, but knowing about how everything fluctuates will help. Thanks.
05/25/2012
Now I'm scared
06/25/2012
Mine went down a lot because I was less active for a while. It sounds like it's a pretty common thing though, looking at the other responses. Since the whole thing takes several factors into account, it could be difficult to judge exactly what one factor caused it.
06/26/2012
It does seem to happen, and the fewer reviews you have the more it can be affected if a negative rating comes in. One person wasn't happy with one of my reviews early on and it dipped me by a good bit because I had so few reviews.
06/27/2012
Thank you all for the helpful info about rankings. I was confused before.
12/16/2012
I had the same thing happen to me, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I know rank is based on a number of different factors, and let's face it - it doesn't really affect how awesome EF is
